I'm the one that was contacted yesterday.

I applied for the law clerk position.

Also, my status on USAJobs is unchanged, so I wouldn't worry about that!

Nope, still referred.

I think the USPTO does not update their alerts on USAJOBs. The only place to get a status update is this page and maybe HR. Once mid-October passes, time to officially move on.

Hi all! Joined TLS a few minutes ago just to participate in this thread :D .

Received a phone call today at ~4:20pm for a reference check.

Applied as a law clerk, but have since been admitted and wasn't asked about my status.

She mentioned that they will be finalizing the October class details before extending offers to the January class.

Hope this helps!

Did your interview take place at the beginning or end of the interview period (August or September)?

It’s shocking that I haven’t received a call. I absolutely nailed the interview.

It appears to me more about personality than having the right answers.

I bombed the interview, but one of my answers made everyone in the room laugh. Got a call.

Very disheartening. I wonder if all the offers have gone out now. Has anyone called HR? Anyone know who to call?

I called Melissa McGrath in the Commissioner’s office last week, and she said offers would be going out until mid October.

I have a few questions left over from my interview that I find I don't have the answers to, and I wonder if any of you do. It is not about getting the job of attorney advisor, but rather, some of the conditions of actually working the job. So in no particular order:
1. How many TM applications is an attorney advisor expected to handle per day? 8 sticks in my mind, but is this at the GS 11 level? What about at the GS-12 level? GS-13? GS-14?
2. Assuming one is doing what is expected, can one expect promotion from GS-11 to 12 to 13 to 14 at one year intervals - a three year path - or would that be unusual? How long does it typically take to rise to a 14 from an 11?
3. What are the opportunities for paid overtime as a 12, a 13, a 14, and how much is that typically worth?
4. Does the PTO grant any bonuses for excellence? What are they worth, and at what point does an Attorney Advisor qualify for them?
5. These positions begin at GS-11, step 1, which is around I think 68K before taxes. That's not much money for the DC area, especially after taxes. How difficult is it to live on that in the DC area near the USPTO?

Thank you for your input.

1.) 8 per day initially, but they don't expect you to hit that when first starting out.

2.) Yes, yearly promotions from 11 to 12 to 13 to 14.

3.) Depends how much overtime you work. Alternatively, OT worked can be used as compensatory time. You can work overtime when your supervisor thinks you are competent enough.

4.) Yes. Up to $20,000 per year. I think you'll be eligible after three quarters, but it's unlikely you'll get a bonus after that quarter, due to the fact that you won't be producing quickly when you start out.

5.) Unless you are ridiculously irresponsible with money, GS-11 is more than enough for the DC area.

I was contacted today for a reference check, January class, attorney position.

Was told to expect a formal offer from HR in one or two weeks’ time as HR will have their hands full getting things situated for the October class over the course of the next couple of weeks.

Curious about this job. Know it's super competitive. Are the exit opportunities good for those that leave?

I asked partners at a NYC biglaw firm and a New England midlaw firm, and they all said the PTO was valuable experience in a candidate for a trademark law associate position.

Very few choose to leave due to the benefits. However exit options are great after 2 years. After 4-5 years they tend to disappear

Just contacted Mellissa Mcgrath and asked for an update. She said the hiring process is still ongoing. I asked if she knew when selections would be done and she said "nppe." From what I saw other people post, others were given more specific info like " calling applicants for the remainder of this week and next" sooo I am kind of thinking that they are pretty much done but just aren't saying that they are in case references don't pan out and they need to add more ppl. Disappointed to say the least.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
Just kidding ... it's still FREE!
