When do you think they'll ask applicants for the writing sample?

According to their email receipt sent yesterday, they said at least 3 weeks before we hear back but looking at the previous posters, they usually reach out in the 2 week mark. *cross fingers* :D

Not really. I spoke with a couple Examining Attorney's I know and they said that a 3-4 week time range for writing requests was more realistic. And could be another couple of weeks after that for interview requests. So I'm trying to keep those dates in mind. But I guess we will see.

I haven't heard anything either. For context, I received an interview at USPTO a couple years ago, so I should meet the basic requirements to get to the interview stage this time around, too (don't really want the job, but need to be considering a range of options right now).

Did you end the application process last time or did they? Wondering if you did if you are concerned this will affect your chances this time around.

They ended it last time, but I'm not concerned. It wasn't like I was really terrible or something. I just didn't quite understand what they were looking for at the time.

Based on my experience last time, I have a couple suggestions. First of all, most of the interviewers will have been doing that job for 20-30 years. They do invest a lot of money training you at the beginning, so they're really looking for people who plan to stay for a long time so they can profit off of that investment. I'd suggest that you frame your answers to the interview questions to show that you want to make the "30 year choice." Therefore, it would probably be advantageous to talk about hobbies and your family, since a lot of people in that position tend to stay specifically because of the flexibility that the job affords them to pursue other interests. I would not recommend asking about what people in that position have gone on to do in 5-10 years. It is true that some examiners go to other parts of USPTO, but when I asked that question, they really tried to emphasize that most of them stayed as examiners, and it didn't go over very well. I'd also avoid trying to show your interest in IP by talking about how much you like IP policy, since they definitely don't do any of that, and if you come across really strong talking about policy, they might get the impression that you could get bored and start looking for a new job. You need some kind of answer to "why trademarks?", but I'd think you'd be better off talking about how much you like the subject matter - the brands that you'd be working with or something like that. Hope this is helpful.

I too got a request for additional information. The USPTO even updated my status on USAJOBS, which they have not done in previous years.

Anyone else get any feedback?

The last day for submission of Written Statement was July 30, 2018 and from what I gathered from previous postings, it normally takes the hiring team around a week or so before they start scheduling for interviews. So I expect that by the end of next week, HR will start contacting candidates to schedule an interview. Good luck everyone who applied.

Yeah, I don't expect to hear anything until sometime next week. Just have to wait right now, unfortunately.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
