1L OCI questions

Postby iliketurtles123 » Wed Jan 22, 2014 2:31 am

1. If a firm comes for spring OCI, are the firms guaranteed to fill the spot from that school only? For example, is it possible for 60 people to interview but none of them get an offer since the firm decides to hire from another school? If not, how many positions do firms usually look to fill from Spring OCI?

2. Are the GPA reqs. (or "soft" requirements) for spring OCI similar to mass mailing? If a firm usually doesn't hire from anyone that's less than top 5-10% at T14 by the traditional mass mailing method, would they dip lower at spring OCI? Basically, is there a greater chance at spring OCI to land a firm job if your GPA is lower?

1. No. Yes. As many positions as they have.

There really aren't that many 1L slots so unless the firm is known to have a X school slot, they won't necessarily take from your school. Here's another twist, they may be coming to your OCI and you bid them high, only to have them announce that they've filled their slots before they interview at your school, or they're not doing a 1L SA this year after all, or they've decided not to do it at the office that you wanted, and therefore they're either canceling their interviews at your school or their not canceling, or your interview will start with them saying "How set are you on the office in Y city? You know we filled that slot last week, right."

2. Most rank requirements are soft at all times. However, the firms are less likely to dip and your chances are FAR LOWER than they will be in the summer. There simply aren't that many 1L SA positions. Those that exist are likely going to the candidates whom the firms know they are going to have to fight to get during 2L OCI.

Sorry, that's the way it is.
