How to e-mail alumni/associates?

Postby Anonymous User » Mon Jan 20, 2014 11:40 pm

There is a firm in my hometown that I really hope to work for and I was wondering how to contact alumni + newly minted associates. Is it okay to contact them via linkedin? What type of questions are standard to ask without coming off as a naive student? Should I e-mail instead?

I'd really appreciate it!

Email for sure. I'm assuming you're reaching out for an informational interview, in which case just mention your hometown is xyz and since they're an alumni you thought it would be beneficial to sit and talk for a bit if they have some time (or on the phone if that's better for either of you). pretty simple, then you can ask questions when you meet up/talk on the phone about whatever you're interested in getting from them, just don't waste their time. ask about job prospects, advice, etc.
