does your CSO not have info from previous years? that's usually the best data to look at

Munger is going to be a no go and probably Irell too. I imagine most of the others are in play but hopefully you get more input from people who know more than I.

You'll probably be borderline for GDC and Quinn depending on your school. Definitely look at your CSO's callback/offer sheet if you can get one from an upperclassman.

Agree with above that Munger is definitely out and Irell is probably out.

My top choice is Gibson and my number two is Latham. I'll try to nudge my overall gpa mark to 3.5 as I heard that's a cut-off. notwithstanding, since I have no w/e would pro-bono help.... any other recommendations? I also plan on hustling when I'm there this summer for my internship. Litigation is what I'm looking for. My dream would by the orange county office at Gibson Dunn

Additionally, how much of an edge do my significant ties give me, i.e. would I be more competitive than the 3.7's w/o ties at my school. Conversely, would I be more competitive than top 10% UCLA/USC

1) Are you sure that a 3.4X at your school is really top 1/3? That sounds kind of low for a 3.3 median (which I think all of MVP have).

2) Do you have any work experience at all? That might hurt you at the margins but I don't know that much if anything will help you overcome that between now and August.

3) I don't think there is any way that significant ties are going to come anywhere close to making up for 2 tenths of a GPA point (probably the difference b/w solidly in top 15% and top 1/3 given the curve you're implying).

4) It's really hard to compare across schools but the answer is probably no, you won't be more competitive than top 10% at UCLA/USC.

You need to kick it up next semester and boost your grades up if you want litigation at GDC. Being on LR might help a lot there too, so really put in a kick ass job on your write on competition for the best shot at getting on.

Can we make a separate forum area for these posts? It is like "What School?"

No lets not, because these threads are almost always retarded. Here's why:

1) OP is a semester too early. This thread is worthless if OPs GPA changes, which it probably will

2) OCI is not like law admissions, where you can put in LSAT/GPA and out comes a school. You can have sick grades and not get any offers. You can have poor grades and snag offers if you bring something else to the table. And frankly, a lot of it is just luck. You can have the grades, but if you don't happen to click with the randoms they bring in for the screener, you're not gonna get the CB. In short, "what are my chances" does NOT work for hiring

3) Schools usually have what data there is, and that's the best source rather than some random speculation of internet people, especially when people are loathe to give personal info for fear of being outed
So totally, totally this.

1) it's 3.4mid which i know for certain is top third, maybe top 30%. I believe it's: 3.2 - bottom third, 3.3 median, 3.4 top third, 3.5 top 23%, 3.63 top 10%
2) I have no w/e I forgot to mention, but I am looking to do pro-bono, perhaps alternative spring break, anything to get something to talk about at interviews.... any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated

4) I'll just out myself - UVA

1) absolutely true, but I'm the type of person who needs goals to work towards or else I lose motivation ;)
2) luck favors the most prepared; on my end I have been preparing for the other aspects (but would love advice)
3) duly noted. my next CSO meeting is next week.

Perhaps to rephrase the question: what GPA will get me into the interview room with GD, and what should I do to prepare if that comes.

Lastly, I'm the sort of person who subscribes to "shoot in the stars and land in the clouds" in UG my goal was HYS, and in hindsight I can't see how it could possibly top UVA 8) , thus, perhaps I'll end up finding another albeit less prestigious firm that clicks with me more.

Thanks for the advice

how's this:

if you improve you're gpa you could potentially have the pick of the litter
if you maintain it you might have to take any job you can
if you drop you are in danger of nojerbpwnage

but you knew all that already -- and if that doesn't motivate you, what can we say that will?

I actually didn't know that but thanks, that's all the advice i need grade-wise

Could someone answer my other question about what things i can do to pad my resume (e.g. pro-bono)
Thanks!

At this point you can't really do anything to pad your resume

the most important thing is to get good grades

even your 1L job is just a talking point

get those grades
