CLS 1L - Doomed for EIP?
1L at CLS. My grades this semester are B, B, A, putting me at a 3.33 (just about median, maybe a little above.) No prestigious undergrad, 2 yrs WE. Can anyone shed some light on whether I'm screwed for OCI this summer?

With strategic bidding, I think you'd be fine for a less prestigious but still biglaw firm. Get your interview technique down and try to get an interesting/relevant job this summer...and focus on next semester's grades.Anonymous User wrote:1L at CLS. Median is a fine place to be. Figure out what you did to get the A and see if you can replicate it. Way too early (and not so bad) to consider yourself doomed.Anonymous User wrote:1L at CLS. Not at all---you have 4 grades still to come 1L spring and can easily end up Stone. That being said, I actually have slightly different advice from the poster above. Rather than figuring out how you got an A, I would suggest figuring out why you got the 2 B's. Those kill your GPA and if you can get a mix of A- / B+s, you have a really good shot of ending up Stone.
Speaking from personal experience as well as those of friends, I would spend more time thinking about how to write exams. Go to the profs who gave you Bs and ask them to go over your exam with you. I know a number of people who did very little reading / really didn't seem to know much about the law and ended up with B+'s. Avoiding B's is more about knowing how to do law exams than knowing the law (granted, to get an A you have to do both really well so obviously you're capable).

I assumed median at CCN would be fine. This thread is actually making me more worried. (Not OP, but also at one of CCN.)

I have friends who were below median at CCN and who were fine. I know people at median who ended up at V10s.Anonymous User wrote:I assumed median at CCN would be fine. This thread is actually making me more worried. (Not OP, but also at one of CCN.)

Median is fine for biglaw. Not guaranteed (obviously), but you should be competitive at tons of firms with those grades.

What about a URM in the same position?

It won't be a turkey shoot and you would be well served by bringing grades up next semester if possible, but you're definitely in a decent to good position still.

A substantial plurality, if not majority, of the people in the class are sitting where you are - and 80+% of those people get jobs at EIP. So clearly you're far from doomed.
Id still definitely take a look at the B exams as to avoid a repeat experience.

Lol, I agree with the sentiment in this post, but that's not how math works.jbagelboy wrote:A substantial plurality, if not majority, of the people in the class are sitting where you are - and 80+% of those people get jobs at EIP. So clearly you're far from doomed.

Right - 80% of the class =/= 80% of those at median. I can rephrase for increased accuracy, but you get the point.blank403 wrote:Oops, accidental anon.
