I know someone who did a Skype interview with Greenberg Traurig down there just this morning. I think they're probably close to done, though. Did you send your stuff to Stearns Weaver?

Sent in my app before the break but no word back.

That doesn't sound very promising. A couple people from my school with Miami ties interviewed there over the break, so if they haven't called you yet, I'm not sure there's too much hope. I could be way wrong, though.

Some of the major firms seem to have started diversity interviews, but as far as movement for the "average" applicants, I was told by a partner at one of the firms that they are not going to start considering people until February when everyone has had a chance to submit their grades.

Did they really finish that early? Or maybe they're just not hiring 1Ls this year? Or is it just empty words to fill a rejection letter?

I heard they'll have a 2L SA class of around 15, which is bigger than their previous summer classes. Based on the most recent NALP form, in 2012, L&W Houston didn't have any 1L summers, and in 2011, they had two (don't know the 2013 data). I know that at my school at OCI they said they were even considering 3Ls and I know they've had a good number of laterals come in, so they're certainly expanding quickly. I just don't know what that means for their 1L hiring goals going forward.

So to answer your questions: 1) Probably so. 2) Probably not. 3) It's the easiest way for firms to say no, but still keep you interested in applying next year.

No. Rejection letter made it sound like they weren't doing a 1L program this year, but I could obviously be wrong if other people have already interviewed with them.

So anyone NOT in Texas or a secondary market get an interview yet without grades?

I've sent out about 60 mailings without grades and got silence or grade requests. Wondering if this is the norm.

Jackson Walker Houston is only hiring ONE 1L.

Pre-grade interviews at a couple of mid-sized firms in Minneapolis. Haven't heard anything from Dorsey, probably for lack of grades. Non-diverse + ccn + very strong ties.

Did you hear today? Was it for an in office interview or a phone screener?

I had a phone interview earlier this week. If the interview day options I was given were all there was, the last phone interview days are this Tuesday/Wednesday.

So this invite was for an in-office interview then (i.e. round two)? I had my phone interview last week too so am trying to gauge if it's bad I didn't hear from them this weekend.

Oh, no. I was just saying I'd had a phone interview this week for MoFo NYC. I don't think we'll hear about Rd.2 till after Wednesday when interviews finish.

Ok. Now im freaking out a bit.

I applied to all the V50s (mass mailed) and got grade requests or rejections.

I stopped applying since our grades still haven't come out yet.

Did I screw up? I was planning on waiting for grades (probably this week) but I'm hearing that some firms have already sent out all their interview requests.

Some V50 firms in major markets have already done non-diversity call-backs and are just waiting for grades (I can personally confirm this). However, if your grades are due shortly, you might as well wait and send them all together instead of sending an application and then you grades a few days later (IMO). When do your grades come out? If it is more than a week away, you might want to go ahead and apply.

Gah. How did people land interviews?

I sent out my cover letter and resume weeks ago to V50 in major markets but only got grade requests. Does this mean they didn't like my cover letter or WE/UG?

Do they interview after grades? if I somehow manage a 4.0, will I still have a shot even if they were done with interviews?

Sent out applications December 1st; also, did research and found alumni at firms, reached out to them, and "networked." All interviews were pre-grades, but I suspect things will start picking up for everyone within the upcoming weeks as more and more of us start getting first-semester grades back. :D

Nice. Seems like you were prepared.
I didn't do the alumni thing. Did that make a huge difference? Also, how did you utilize the alumni?
