Has anyone heard anything from these agencies? If OCC plans to conduct interviews in early October, wouldn't at least a few people have been notified?

iirc, OCC is not funded by congress... as such, i believe they are insulated from the shutdown. i do not know the specifics and i could be wrong.

I work at the FDIC, and you're right, the FDIC is insulated as well: it's a United States government corporation operating as an independent agency. The FDIC doesn't get any Congressional appropriations--it's funded by the deposit insurance premiums it charges banks and from earnings on investments in U.S. Treasury securities. But not a bad setup: charge banks for a service they are mandated to have. But the FDIC is left holding the bag when a failed bank's assets are worthless and can't be sold.

If other people have questions about the FDIC Honors Program, I'll follow this thread and try to respond. And to those interested, if you're married, the Honors program can be kind of tough: you're shuttled between D.C. and other regional and/or field offices to get exposure to different practices/offices. Much easier if you're single.

For those who applied to the FDIC, this is on the FAQ page:
"How will I know if my application is being considered?

We consider all applications to be "live" until we send you a letter indicating that we are no longer considering your application."

So at least the FDIC is nice enough to let you know when you're dinged. Better than holding out hope for nothing.

Isn't it only the FDIC that has the location rotation system. The OCC and FRB have no such requirement.

FDIC is mostly insulated. The noteable exception is the OIG division which is the only major part that gets their budget from congress, staff in this division have been sent home.

I believe they send e-mail or letter dings. But I don't think they've sent any out yet.

I personally did not have a screener, but I don't know about the others. I also did not receive a confirmation e-mail about my application materials. That might be a good sign for you!

I've got the reverse question--are the people who have heard back from the OCC all individuals who did not have screeners? I interviewed at OCI and am desperately looking for a reason to maintain hope (on the highly unlikely chance that they are for whatever reason pulling people out of the email pile for callbacks before calling those who have already had a screener). Sigh.

It doesn't help at all! But if you have nothing else on your resume to demonstrate an interest in banking law, then it wouldn't be a bad idea.
