Exit Options
After how many years do people usually leave corporate biglaw (non-NYC) and what type of non-firm jobs are usually available? Is in-house the default landing spot?

Re: Exit Options
I found the links in this thread very helpful, since they (presumably) list the exit location of every associate at the non-NY offices of a V5:

Basic conclusion: it looks like a lot lateral down, some go in house, and a few go to other places - government, etc. This was during and soon after the recession, though.

Pretty sure it includes the NY office too.AntipodeanPhil wrote:I found the links in this thread very helpful, since they (presumably) list the exit location of every associate at the non-NY offices of a V5:

Re: Exit Options
Indeed, but OP was specifically asking about non-NYC big law, and I'm assuming exit options from Skadden's mothership are going to be different to those from its branch offices.Fresh Prince wrote:Pretty sure it includes the NY office too.AntipodeanPhil wrote:I found the links in this thread very helpful, since they (presumably) list the exit location of every associate at the non-NY offices of a V5:

Got it. Exits don't change that much though. Companies across the nation love Skadden.AntipodeanPhil wrote:Indeed, but OP was specifically asking about non-NYC big law, and I'm assuming exit options from Skadden's mothership are going to be different to those from its branch offices.Fresh Prince wrote:Pretty sure it includes the NY office too.AntipodeanPhil wrote:I found the links in this thread very helpful, since they (presumably) list the exit location of every associate at the non-NY offices of a V5:

Re: Exit Options
OP
I understand the answer is not easily attainable, but I was referring to the non-V5's of the world including V50-75.
It seems the 4-5 year mark is the sweet spot to jump to in-house work?

Re: Exit Options
I'd like to know this as well. People always say in-house on this forum, but is it really that easy to jump in-house? From the looks of that Skadden document above, it looks like most people just switched to another law firm.Anonymous User wrote:OP

Re: Exit Options
I wonder if that was because both documents date from the end of the recession - that maybe, because of the economic circumstances at the time, they left before they were pushed. Can anyone with actual knowledge speak to this?Anonymous User wrote:From the looks of that Skadden document above, it looks like most people just switched to another law firm.
