Covington DC CB/Offer Timeline
People with offers from Covington DC: what was the wait between CB and offer? Those still waiting post-CB, how long have you been waiting?

Offer was 2 days after CB, I've heard their hiring committee usually meets about once a week (seems like it's usually on Fridays).

Does Covington actually calls everyone's references? Or do they just call for candidates that they're really interested in?

They call all of your references before extending callback invitations.Anonymous User wrote:Does Covington actually calls everyone's references? Or do they just call for candidates that they're really interested in?

Re: Covington DC CB/Offer Timeline
Is there a website or ranking where law firm attrition rates are posted? I was a Covington summer in 2013 and a partner there mentioned to me that they lose 50% of their associates every year. Is that typical? I'm looking for a little stability here.

Re: Covington DC CB/Offer Timeline
50%??? This obviously isn't even close to accurate. They only have a class about 40 summers and only about 250 associates. If they lost 50% of their associates ever year, the firm would have like only 2 associates left after 5 years.Anonymous User wrote:Is there a website or ranking where law firm attrition rates are posted? While I don't know their attrition, I'm guessing it's probably around 30 people a year (given that their summer class is about 40 and they are trying to grow the DC office a little bit).

Do they take a lot of laterals? They have 900 total attorneys (all offices), so 650 partners?

Re: Covington DC CB/Offer Timeline
I don't know about the rest of the offices, you can look them up on NALP but DC - http://www.nalpdirectory.com/employer_p ... ton%22%7D#
141 Partners, 249 Associates, 95 Counsel, 42 Staff Attorneys = approximately 500
I guess I should clarify I'm talking about Covington DC - I'm not sure about the other offices. I'm not sure which office you summered at.

Re: Covington DC CB/Offer Timeline
Based on my experience with the Cov, I think the partner is referring to the fact that only about ~50% of summer associates return as first years. I think another 30-40% return as second or third years following clerkships. My understanding is that there is no firm-forced attrition, barring extraordinary poor performance, until the 6th year.Anonymous User wrote:Is there a website or ranking where law firm attrition rates are posted?
