Everyone just networked into like, five jobs. Also there are individual name tags, little mints on each pillow, and a man-servant named Clifton.

Alright guys, I have a major dilemma and nobody else to ask. I'm a brand new associate, happy where I'm at, and with no intentions of leaving. Of course, this means that, after around a month at my firm, another firm has approached me about lateraling. I'm semi-interested in that it would be a good place to be in a few years if I don't make partner here, but it's several steps down in prestige, ability to get big clients, etc., and I doubt it would pay anywhere near what I currently make. I do, however, have a great relationship with the individual from the other firm, and I know lots of the people there. Do I take the risk of meeting with them to see what they're offering, or would that be a stupid risk? Pretty much, WTF do I do?

Yeah, I initially didn't do that, and the mod e-mailed me on my work email to make sure I was not an imposter of myself. I don't yet have access to the new forum, but, hopefully soon.

Well, it sounds like you are not at all interested in this other job, so I would say don't bother. Maybe just tell that that since you just started, you would like to stay with your current firm to learn the ropes, but might be interested in moving down the line and that you hope they will keep in touch and think of you should another position open up.

So you got an offer for a worse job... sounds like a pretty easy call to me. You're flattered to be approached and certainly interested conceptually, but can't turn your back on a new employer one month in and so new to the industry.

Well, I'm a bit interested in the job, but I don't think enough so that I would be convinced to move. It's mostly just curiosity about what they would offer, I think. My initial thoughts were similar to what you suggested, but I didn't there was some unspoken guideline suggesting that young associates take the chance to check out any lateral offers they get.

I have a buddy (non-lawyer) at a HF.

Works about the same hours as me for about (educated guess based upon the little I've been able to get out of him about his jerb) 4x the dough. Maybe more if his group has a killer year.

I don't know how that works. I know my friend is checking out lateral offers, but she actually wants to leave her current job cuse she hates it. I totally understand curiosity, but if you don't think you'll take it then you are kind of just wasting everyone's time.

Possible dumb question:

If a firm takes a litigation on a contingent fee basis (the company will presumably be getting back a ton of money from the government and we would get part of their return); what is the point of tracking billable hours?
