When asking a firm post-CB to expedite because

Postby Anonymous User » Wed Sep 04, 2013 10:14 pm

your offer at another firm is expiring soon, is it standard practice to name where you have an offer? Or is it best to just say that I have an offer expiring on X date?

Also, if the firm where I have an offer is considered more selective/has a significantly higher vault ranking, would that increase my chances of getting an offer at the pending firm if I were to name it? Both firms are satellite offices of firms that generally do the same type of work.

"I really didn't like you when I interviewed you, but now that you have an offer at WLRK, I really like you." That's cute, but doesn't happen.

I assume OP wouldn't be trying to get an offer from the less prefftigious/selective firm if (s)he would rather be at the firm (s)he has an offer. However, if OP tells a V100 that (s)he has an expiring offer from a V10 and then says why (s)he would rather be at the V100 for some legitimate reason, it might be helpful. At the very least, I can't imagine it would hurt.

Definitely wouldn't hurt, but 9/10 times OP would be talking to recruiting, who couldn't care less about the firm's name except for statistical purposes.

OP here. One of my CB interviewers at pending firm is the hiring partner, and he specifically told me to let him know if i was on time crunch if any other offers or deadlines came up. But he obviously didn't say whether I should name names or anything. FWIW, offering firm is a v40 and pending firm is a v100.

I'm not sure what the issue is here. Yes, you should inform firm that you're in a time crunch, and you should only say firm name if asked. No, I really don't think saying the name will make a difference.
