no, graduating in may. networking has been pretty solid but still all eggs and no chickens. Also, anyone know anything about resume launchpad, or is it a scam?

Yeah thats weird. Also, from the forum search, I can't tell if people were shilling for it or whether it really works...

There was a thread on here somewhere about people who had used it to find firms.

The biggest issue with using it as the mail merge is that it says some shit like sent with resume launchpad.

It doesn't say anything to the effect of "sent with resume launchpad". It'll say something like "via (random looking email address)". I honestly doubt most HR people would know what that means. The biggest problem is that, last I checked, the database is about 3-4 years out of date. I think it's better to just use it as a resource to find firms that aren't on NALP and then construct your own mass-mail spreadsheet (after double-checking any info found on Launchpad). You also get around the $.25 per e-mail fee that way.

You do not have to actually send anything with resume launchpad in order to see the firms. You can see the database for free.

I think LaunchPad is broken. I get server errors whenever I try to use it (to find smaller firms, I'm not using their service)

Anyone who graduated in 2014 still looking for jobs? I think I'm $%^@ed. Employers don't even want free interns now. Is mass mailing going to help at this stage? (For graduates, not 3Ls)

Does sending out hundreds of resumes and cover letters EVER work? I always thought this was the least effective way to find a job. Would be interested to hear from a few people for whom this worked, and what kind of job you got from it.

Full disclosure: this is not for me, but for current students I am trying to advise intelligently.

I landed 5-6 interviews and ended up w/ an offer from a V20 so I would definitely encourage this (mind you I probably sent upwards of 400 emails)

Agree with above poster. Send them out in mid to late July of summer going into 2L or 3L. One of the interviews turned into an offer.

I got like 10 screeners from about 200-300 mass mailing emails and a couple callbacks. No offers but that's my fault for having a bad personality, it's not the concept of mass mailing's fault.

Mass Mailing is an incredibly inefficient way to find a 2L summer job. There's also zero reason not to do it. You can't get jobs you don't apply for.

I think this is true (that it's the least effective way to get get job) generally. But most of the time when people here refer to mass mailing, they mean sending applications to law firms for summer programs (1L summer or 2L summer). Lots and lots of firms regularly hire students for these positions every year, so mass mailing is really a way to get your materials in front of someone who is probably hiring anyway. So I don't think it's quite the same as randomly sending out applications to everywhere in other industries.

People do mass mail for permanent jobs after 2L year, and I'm sure get some response, but my impression is that it's not as helpful as for 1L/2L summer hiring.

When should rising 2Ls start mass mailing? Also, is there a negative to doing it early?

I just looked and I sent my first ones out July 7th. I think probably late Julyish is good, I'm thinking there might be a danger in sending them in really early because the hiring season might not really be on their radar and your email could get shuffled to the bottom of the e-pile.

But YMMV, etc. Someone will now say they sent them out in June and got like 13 offers from it so who knows

Is there a good guide to mass mailing on TLS? Sorry I'm bad at searching.

There's not much to know, really. Have your letters/resume ready to go in July. Write cover letters basically the same way you wrote 1L cover letters, and tailor them to each market. Pull firms from https://www.nalpdirectory.com and mail merge them into your cover letter template. Follow up with more mailing after bidding results to firms you failed to get OCI interviews with (they will likely offer to meet you at OCI anyway, or may just send you directly to callbacks if they like your resume).

Early July, and then follow up in early August. You don't know which firms are looking early, and it's a huge plus if you can get in a few screeners/callbacks before OCI even starts.
