If they are continually opening it, then do not follow up or apply up the chain of command. A lot of tracking programs, particularly the free ones, do not tell you whether or not your email was forwarded, but will continue to notify you when the email was forwarded and subsequently opened. If this is something that is happening, it means you made it off the pile already.

If you weren't selected by the firm through your school's OCI, would it be appropriate to resend your materials to the same firm?

Always err on the side of not thinking and sending more applications.

I should add that I'm even applying to places that I've already been rejected to... applying to their other offices, that is. I may have been rejected from Nixon Peabody NY, but that doesn't mean I can't apply to Nixon Peabody Chicago, DC, Boston, or Rochester (especially Rochester, one of their biggest offices and in a mad decent smaller city).

So is it a good idea to email all the silent apps I've sent out and tell them I'll be in town for a CB? Does a week give enough lead time?

Lol so I applied to Hahn & Hessen about a week ago via mass-mail.

I just got a letter in the mail today. Ding.

... a fifty-word, three-sentence letter. Which begs the question... why not just respond to my email via email? Instead of spending postage to mail me, when I haven't even interviewed with the firm yet?

First straight to callback from mailings. Feels good since I've had nothing but rejection this week.

Hahn sent me a scan of the letter via email.

Not entirely related to mass-mailing, although some of it arises from those apps... but I'm emailing some firms in Boston because I will be visiting next week. Is there any particular etiquette for doing this? One issue I have: I already applied to this firm via their online form. When I email the recruiting person to tell them of my availability, does it make sense to give them my resume and transcript?

1. Haven't heard back from four firms I interviewed with during EIW/OCI. It's been about 1.5 weeks. Should I assume they're probably going to be dings or not necessarily?

2. So far I've mass mailed about 130 firms. Received a bunch of replies, mostly either (1) "thanks but no thanks," or (2) "thanks we'll let you know soon." Still keeping my fingers crossed.

3. Yesterday I received a ding from a T15 firm that was more personalized than usual. The recruiter (1) "strongly encourage[d]" me to apply as a 3L for a first year associate position, (2) said she would keep my info on file and notify me when the firm hosts events for my school, and (3) said "we would love to see you there."

Do you think this was genuine? Or is it not unusual for a recruiter to write something like this? If feel like I am reading too much into things in thinking that it's genuine.

I assume that was quinn? Got the same email. They don't do summers anymore (except for like a handful of people), and are changing to a 3L/clerk-exclusive hiring program, so, unfortunately, I do not think it was genuine.

I'm guessing that he is asking if the "apply as a 3L" is specially directed at him.

I got a similarly-worded email from Cravath. As context, my GPA is hovering around a 3.3, while Cravath usually hires no lower than a 3.7. Sorry, but there's nothing to read into this.

As for applying to Cravath with a 3.3 and getting an interview, I guess I'm just a massive troll.

Cravath is genuine about the "apply as a 3L" in the narrow sense that they, unlike many of their peers, regularly do 3L OCI. For whatever that's worth.
