MTO callback, a mere seven days after the screener, and six days after the first round of CBs went out. Anything is possible.

One callback from 60+ screeners. My grades were probably slightly below median if you look at the number of H's, but I was hoping that would be offset by a book award. Maybe not. I thought the callback went well, but no offer yet. I'm mass mailing like crazy and starting to panic.

Jeez... Sorry to hear that, and a little concerned. How common is that situation here at S? (1L).

Good luck!!!

This is probably not a great time to ask that question. OCS will be able to provide that info when it is time for you to worry about it. In the meantime, I would focus on getting the best grades you can during 1L and trying to find a good mentor to help you through the first year.

Based on my experience (admittedly small and anecdotal) striking out at OCI is not common but not at all unheard of. Most people do manage to find good jobs (paying market or near market) if they hussle enough even if they do strike out, but I know of a couple exceptions. I personally know 2-3 people who graduated in 2013 who either struck out or were no offered and currently have no job lined up, and I know a couple others who have jobs that would probably be considered "shitlaw." A year or two back someone estimated that about 10% of Stanford's class ends up in "undesirable" jobs (shitlaw, jobs not requiring a JD, low-level clerkships, etc.), and based on my anecdotal experience that sounds about right to me.

I don't want to cause panic; Stanford is probably as close as you can get to a "safe" law school in this day and age. However, even a Stanford degree does not guarantee you a good job, and there is a lot of randomness in the process. Those who have 10 H's will almost certainly be okay, but grades only matter up to a point. I have known people with all P's who got multiple offers at top-ranked firms and I have known people around median who struck out. My advice would be don't panic but also don't assume that a Stanford degree by itself will get you a job. Be prepared to mass mail, e-mail alumni, network, hussle, etc. until you have a job offer in hand. In most cases it won't be necessary, but I think it's better to be safe than sorry.

Communicate now with those who not only know what a legal education is, but can offer you worthy advice and commentary as you complete the three most educational, yet challenging years of your law related post graduate life.

Update: I got an offer today from the firm where I had my callback. I feel like I can finally breathe again for the first time since OCI ended. It's a non-Vault firm that most SLS people would probably never even consider, but it sure beats debtor's prison.
