Using a letter of rec addressed to law school apps

Postby MSUlaw49 » Mon Aug 05, 2013 10:57 am

Worked for a senator a couple years ago and got a letter of rec but it is addressed for law schools

Should I bother them to resend for general work or will this be fine?

I would get them to resend. You don't want an employer scratching their head to why your recommender says a line like "he would be great in law school...."

Do you have an electronic copy of the Senator's letter? If so, edit yourself, email it to him, and explain that you want to use the same letter but tweaked slightly to address to whoever/whatever. If he likes it, he'll use it, and you just saved him the hassle. Everyone appreciates that.

If you don't have a copy, then do what Devlin said and ask to make minor adjustments reflecting the new intended recipient.
