Advice for interview with Gibson Dunn

Post by Anonymous User » Thu Aug 01, 2013 2:06 pm

If I could pick my top choice for firms to work at, Gibson Dunn is my number one choice. Thankfully I landed a interview with them for my OCI (they were my number one bid). I am open to working in either LA or SF and would like to do litigation. Any advice for how to make sure the interview turns into a callback would be super helpful. I know how quickly 20 minutes can go by. If anyone has interviewed with them, is there anything different they look for outside the norm of what all firms are looking for? Is it helpful if I tell them they are my top choice? Is it harmful if I am open to either office?

Thanks!

Also, how much research should I do on the firm? I know a fair amount just from what I have heard from people I have met that work there... How much additional information or what specific research might they be looking to see that I know?

There's nothing that different about them compared to other firms. Just do your basic research. They are really proud of being a national firm. So talk about how GD is unique because you can work on matters with partners in other offices frequently. And it is definitely a knock-on-doors/free-for-all kind of work assignment system, so talk about about how that gives you a great opportunity to shape your own career, how you are assertive and won't just sit back for people to give you work, etc. That's all I can really think of.
