3L OCI Thread
So what's the deal with 3L OCI? I just got a few invites but what are the odds like compared to 2L OCI?

School range? Grades? 2L SA? Reason for switching?

Re: 3L OCI Thread
T20, about middle of the class, sort of had 2L SAs (1 was an in house gig at a F500 so immediate offer unlikely; the other is at a small firm I really have no interest in working at due to type of practice)kwais wrote:School range? Grades? 2L SA? Reason for switching?

Re: 3L OCI Thread
I only know what I've read on here, but it seems that 3L Oci is most likely for those who had bona fide SAs, perhaps had a grade increase (or had the grades in the first place) and have a practice-group related reason for switching up. You don't seem to fit this bill, but of course you should give it a go.grrm09 wrote:T20, about middle of the class, sort of had 2L SAs (1 was an in house gig at a F500 so immediate offer unlikely; the other is at a small firm I really have no interest in working at due to type of practice)kwais wrote:School range? Re: 3L OCI Thread
Well I have had a pretty significant GPA bump since 2L OCI, and like I said, I got a few preselects for this round. I guess we'll see...kwais wrote:I only know what I've read on here, but it seems that 3L Oci is most likely for those who had bona fide SAs, perhaps had a grade increase (or had the grades in the first place) and have a practice-group related reason for switching up. Re: 3L OCI Thread
Something about this thread reminds me of that Simpsons episode where Homer calls the 1-900 "Party Line" where you're supposed to be able to call in to talk to hot girls, but then there's a split screen and it's just Homer and Moe and Apu and Barney going "Hello? Hot girls? Where are the hot girls?"

Re: 3L OCI Thread
I'm also planning to take part in my school's OCI (no full-time possibility at my current firm).
Quick question, when NALP reports 80~ 3Ls getting offers - how do people with offers (from summer) switching firms impact that number? Does the firm they leave simply not hire a replacement? Or does it include them as well?

Re: 3L OCI Thread
A friend who graduated from Brooklyn this year got offers from S & C and Skadden after 3L OCI after striking out entirely at 2L OCI. Being 100, not trolling, although I don't know all of the details of his situation.

Re: 3L OCI Thread
While I have heard of 3Ls getting biglaw even from Brooklyn, there is no way it happened through "3L OCI" -- firms of that caliber don't even bother to do 3L OCI at schools like BLS.Anonymous User wrote:A friend who graduated from Brooklyn this year got offers from S & C and Skadden after 3L OCI after striking out entirely at 2L OCI. Re: 3L OCI Thread
I'm curious to know if anybody who has recruiting experience for 3L hiring, or who is at a firm that frequently does routine hiring, can chime in and let us know what exactly it is 3L hiring firms are looking for? I understand some want specific practices, but others seem to be coming to 3L OCI generally. In those cases, are they basically just looking for people with 3.7+ GPAs who want to trade up from their SA? Or would someone who didn't have a big firm SA but had an in-house gig at a bulge bracket investment bank have any shot?

Re: 3L OCI Thread
Skadden is soliciting resumes at my school.
Any tips for mass mail? I had an SA, got an offer, but want to switch cities. How can I distinguish my email from the thousands of others that pour into recruiting inboxes this time of year? I worked mostly on a specific area (M&A) over the summer, got good reviews, my classes have all been corporate-focused, and my grades, (previously above median @T6) have improved slightly since last year (slightly more above median @T6).
Should I indicate any of this in the subject line? In the email body? Or am I just keeping my fingers crossed that someone actually reads the cover letter, resume, and transcript?

Curious about this as well. I also have an offer but would like to change cities. I'd really hate to leave my current firm hanging for too long.Anonymous User wrote:Skadden is soliciting resumes at my school.

Re: 3L OCI Thread
Has anyone had success with 3L applications outside of OCI? I have a few OCI interviews, but no success with direct applications or resume collects as of yet. I am curious how others are faring.
