Interested in externing during school year in an SEC field office in their enforcement division. Northeastern City. What kinds of things does the enforcement division do? Is it 10b-5? Is it more obscure litigation? If I haven't taken Sec. Reg. will I struggle? Only relevant class will likely be Corporations.

I did their summer program in NY. It was great. They have trial attorneys, but unless you end up in the trial division, you'll be working on the investigative side, meaning you'll be doing the work leading up to preparing an action memo, which is when the Commission formally decides to bring charges and hands it over to the trial division. A lot of enforcement is focused on 10b-5 but that's not all you'll be doing. I listened to wiretaps, took notes in a proffer, and did a whole bunch of research on the sorta weird one-off issues we got. I'd do NY over Boston because it's a much bigger deal and they bring bigger cases.

edit: if you have taken SecReg it helps, but I've only taken the six doctrinal 1L classes and didn't have a problem. They don't expect you to come in knowing anything.
