GULC EIW 2013
No thread for this year: Let's get this started hoya lawyas!
Post questions, concerns, thoughts, etc.!
Last couple of years GULCers have shared the triumphs and tragedies of EIW. To that end, and in the interest of sharing relevant data to make sense out of that which makes no sense, would suggest sharing whatever information you're comfortable with from the following (feel free to copy/paste into your reply post):
Approximate class rank: (top 10%, top 15%, top 33%, above median, median, below median)
Journal: (which one)
Moot Court, Beaudry, etc.: (which one/s)
IP backbround: Yes/No
Significant work experience: (broadly defined as anything relevant to corporate America/business/finance/accounting/tax/paralegal/etc.) Yes/No is enough
Years out of undergrad: (if more than 2, just 2+ is fine to prevent outing)
Prestigious undergrad: Yes/No/Locally
Other relevant factors (e.g., URM, LBGT, age/prior life experience, military):
Target markets:
Type of work sought: Corporate/Litigation/Doesn't matter
Self-assessed interviewing ability: (great/good/normal/below normal/far below normal)
Screeners or callbacks prior to EIW from mass-mailing: (if yes, how many, what type of firm, etc.)
Screeners received for EIW: (just the number)
Callbacks received from EIW screeners: (just the number, and if you would, Vault ranking if applicable, i.e., V25, V50, and two non-Vault firms; market/city if comfortable listing)
Offers received: (just the number, and if you would, Vault ranking if applicable, i.e., V25, V50, and two non-Vault firms; market/city if comfortable listing)
Identifying handle (not TLS name: stay anonymous) for this line of posting; feel free to edit your original post, though, as things change (i.e., don't just keep on adding new versions).

According to the 2011 & 2012 threads, indeed they have. Question - are you guys planning to wait on mass mailing until then?Anonymous User wrote:Have journal results come out that early in past years?

Probably not a good idea to wait on mass mailing.

Anyone doing job fairs to supplement mass-mailing and OCI? Any luck with snagging screeners?

Uploaded my resume for the Vault/MCAA Diversity fair in D.C. and got 3 interviews that way. Diversity applicant (obv.), top 1/3rd, don't know about journals yet.Anonymous User wrote:Anyone doing job fairs to supplement mass-mailing and OCI? Any luck with snagging screeners?

Pretty sure that you have to check the write-on competition website ("results" tab). I hope they come out today, but I'm not holding my breath. OCS told me it could be early August FWIW...Anonymous User wrote:How are they announcing? Email?Anonymous User wrote:I hope this happens tomorrow. Grats! I got Journal of Law and Public Policy. Anyone knows how we are supposed to put this on our resume? Do we say an offer was extended or what?Anonymous User wrote:Journal results are up! Got GLJ!

I think you'd list it as "(offer extended)" only if you had an offer and declined it.Anonymous User wrote:Grats! I got Journal of Law and Public Policy. Re: GULC EIW 2013
Did you read all the information that was available before, during, and after the competition? Like the comparison chart containing the selection criteria for each journal? It was abundantly clear that there is no way to get on a journal whereby your case comment didn't constitute a substantial portion of the criteria.Anonymous User wrote:so is it not possible to grade on to GJL? not to sound like a jerk, but im well within the top 10% and had what i assumed to be at least a decent note and didnt get it...

no need to be a dick. the guidance is pretty vague as it simply shows a 50/50 or 60/40 breakdown for each journal without any insight into the black box that pumps out a final score. at many other schools it is somewhat clear that at a certain threshold (i.e. top 5%) its pretty much a lock as long as you turn something in.

I second this question. "Staff, Georgetown Journal of X, 2013?" Is that too bold? I don't want to do anything improper.Anonymous User wrote:Grats! I got Journal of Law and Public Policy. Anyone knows how we are supposed to put this on our resume? Do we say an offer was extended or what?

Re: GULC EIW 2013
GLJ only takes 50-55 out of 600 1Ls, and only half of those spots even consider grades at all. This happens every year; there are no guarantees, no matter your grades.Anonymous User wrote:so is it not possible to grade on to GJL? not to sound like a jerk, but im well within the top 10% and had what i assumed to be at least a decent note and didnt get it...

Re: GULC EIW 2013
As I recall, the cut-off is top 30% of write-on scores. No matter your grades/diversity, if you aren't top 30%, you aren't in the running. People with top grades miss out every year because of this. That said, top grades are plenty to carry them through EIW.Anonymous User wrote:Anonymous User wrote:Did you read all the information that was available before, during, and after the competition? I think OCI biding results are released today. Anyone know what time? Because I'm probably going to be sitting on the OCI tab at work all day hitting F5.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
