2013 CCBA Minority Job Fair

Post by Anonymous User » Mon Jun 17, 2013 11:10 am

Let's get this started. Am I the only one who can't see any employers or is 3L recruiting as bad as everyone says it is?

Rising 3L here too, and none showed up in mine. Though, I swear that I saw a list of about 20+ firms the other day.

It was probably last year's list. This fair is living up to its reputation for disorganization already.

I missed the sign up period. How many 3L jobs are there so I don't feel bad?

There's 11 employers but as for actually hiring 3Ls there's probably 8 or 9. 4 firms, 1 of which is IP and the other is Bartlit Beck, which almost no 3L there has a chance of getting.

If you are a 2L it's a great way to interview with Chicago firms. It's definitely not a waste for 2Ls.

Any sort of indication of what students do well at the fair? Top 1/3 at a Midwest public law school

I thought this was a urm job fair? Why would your career services advise you to sign up? Won't the employers look at you strangely?

They won't because it's really awkward for them to question your race. I've gone to a couple as a white guy and have had no problems securing CBs.

It's like OCI in general. Top of the class people from UChicago/Northwestern clean up. It's not going to replace OCI but is a good way to add some extra Chicago firms to your interview schedule.

Can anyone else not access the Symplicity page? I thought bidding was supposed to be open until tonight.

I think symplicity is down. I wish I would've known that white dudes show up to these things. How is 3L hiring out of these things? Have you ever heard of a strike out at 2L OCI and then 3L offer from a career fair?

I'm an ORM who participated as 2L last year. It's definitely legit. I got callbacks (but sadly no offers). Not a waste of time.

Fucking unbelievable. But then again, for REAL diversity, we do need to add a snowflake to the mix.
Your school's Career Services advisor must be desperate, sending students to where they don't belong.

Snowflake reminds me of the guy on the Titanic who, upon hearing about a lifeboat for women and children only, starts putting on a dress and lipstick, and prepping to get on his knees.

Referring to someone derogatorily as snowflake, when enrolled in a a job fair for diversity, is hypocritical to the point of such programs. It is ironic that you now feel entitled to special treatment in the employment sector simply because you're diverse.

Personally, I am for affirmative action, but not for individuals like you.

As you should know, the term “snowflake” was not intended to be racial in nature, but rather, as an identifier for the non-URM lowlife who seeks here to take unfair advantage of an opportunity that was presumably created to correct a social injustice. As a minority, I do feel that we are entitled to not “special treatment”, but instead, special access to equalize the exposure to firms that have long been available to people like Snowflake.
By the way, I actually am not a strong supporter of affirmative action, and once at the firm, I intend to compete with my non-URM co-workers based solely on my performance.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
Just kidding ... it's still FREE!
