In order to get interviews with Sidley, White & Case, Jones Day, or Paul Hastings, you'll probably need to move these firms up on your list. Same goes for Cleary/Debevoise/Paul Weiss - but I wouldn't move these up because they are all very grade-conscious. You can, however, probably move Hughes Hubbard & Cadwalader down. Also, I would think about maybe bumping Kirkland up a spot or two because they were very popular last year and they also reduced the number of their interview slots - you may get them at 5 or you may not.

Did they tell you to move Simpson and DPW down at all based on their data?

Any insight on positioning for Cleary or S&C from their information? My only data points are that someone missed Cleary at 16 and someone missed S&C at 15 last year. Would love to hear any additional info.

Based on the composition of the first 15 or so firms, certainly seems like mid stone at least. I don't see too many firms up there with a stone/kent rate below 50% (and most much higher). Would seem like a risky bidlist for anyone below a 3.6 or so.

Paul Hastings (would replace 3): concerned about number of offers, honestly--vault ranking for spot it needs to be bid, and decreased interviews offered.
Latham (would replace 9): not sure about firm culture, handling of recession, and like White & Case.
Wilkie (would replace 10): Honestly, this firm's reception and reputation make it hard for me to not list...but with fewer interview spots, and fear of not getting an offer, I am considering strategically cutting it.
Cadawalder (would replace 12): I think this is right around where it needs to be bid. Would change it out for Paul, Weiss if I don't have a realistic shot at Paul.
Freshfields (would replace 14): Weil. Not sure how I feel about it; not sure where to bid it; thoughts welcome.

Anyway, sorry for the long post. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Good luck to us all!!

Well since this is anonymous ... GPA in the Kent range. But even so, Career Services suggested that I put some higher interview to offer rate firms in my list. If you haven't gone in to see them yet, I actually would recommend it just to get a look at their information, I'm emailing my final list in again for one last check. I'm also considering swapping Sydley with DLA Piper or Kirkland Ellis, anyone with comments on either of those firms, I'd love to hear anyone's experiences.

Ace -- for what it's worth, I really think OCS is just covering their ass. Are you k-jd? Even if so (and even if you aren't on CLR, which you almost certainly are if you wanted it), you should not be considering dla piper. Kirkland and Sidley are pretty interchangeable if you want to tinker, but dla piper shouldn't be on your radar. They have 4k+ attorneys in like 80 offices. It's a factory and there's a always a risk of a contraction in business leading to downsizing. Even ITE, you have nothing to worry about.

Obviously WLRK is always a crapshoot, but if you don't get multiple offers out of Skadden, S&C, STB, and Cravath then it would likely reflect something about your interviewing or personality, and bidding on less selective firms won't fix that. (some like DPW are more fit/culture conscious).

Back again, 3.7, secondary journal, meh WE. Hopefully this is close to final, although I could use some recommendations for 25-30 (don't really want to, but could bid a secondary market if I'm just wasting those bids otherwise).

Seems pretty good overall. Milbank might be a bit too low if it's a firm you really want. I would consider finding space for FF on your list, maybe in the low 20s.
Edit: I'd also move Wachtell down a bit, assuming you didn't get LR, (you didn't mention it).

Yeah, I don't mean to be discouraging, but w/o Kent, LR, strong WE, or killer interviewing ability Wachtell is a bit of a stretch (not saying you need all of those, but probably 2 or 3). Nothing wrong with taking a shot with a bid at 29 or 30 though.

I think your bid order/strategy might need some work. I highlighted firms that I think are too low in red, and the one I think is too high in blue. I don't know enough about the DC offices to comment on their placement.

I'm not sure if Covington and Burling DC is in reach with a ~3.6, same with Boies for lit. As it stands I think your bid list is dangerous because you're probably going to miss out on a number of the desirable NY firms and will be left with firms that (I'd guess) are not your real targets in NYC and firms that might be a bit of a reach in DC. It might be a good idea to reconsider which firms/offices you're bidding on as well as the bid order.

I have a question on a somewhat related topic -- I'm 95% sure I want to do corporate in NY. But I have good grades and now found out I made LR. Is it worth putting some DC firms in the 20s in my bidlist? Thinking specifically about Covington DC and and WilmerHale DC. Might it make sense even just to get more screeners?
