Re: 2013 UVA OGI Thread
As a counterpoint: last year, after getting a few offers, I cancelled the rest of my callbacks and made a decision quickly. In fact, I made the decision so quickly that I chose wrong and, this year, I found myself doing 3L OGI. Don't hoard offers, but don't rush yourself, either.

i fall on neither side of the trickle-down fence (sentimentally or situationally) but if you want to call someone out on a messageboard and inspire them to act with the collegial spirit that drew us all to this fine institution, the anonymous post is literally the least effective mechanism available

Re: 2013 UVA OGI Thread
I finally made the decision, and withdrew all other offer, but this is more difficult than it seems. I know it can be hard to understand if you just want ONE offer, but it is definitely hard to decide when faced to pick two firms that are very similar in most respects, and you have people from both sides telling you why you should pick them.Anonymous User wrote:I doubt people are hoarding offers here more so than at other schools, but I don't understand how picking the right firm can be so hard.

Re: 2013 UVA OGI Thread
I think most people are completely understanding of someone holding two (or maybe three) offers that they are having a difficult time deciding between. But, some people are fortunate to have many, and even if you have more than five, you're allowed what two weeks to get back down to five per NALP guidelines. I think the irritation comes in when some people are holding on to many. And, really the thing is that there may not be a "right" decision. You may do equally well at all the firms from which you hold offers. Life is confusing like that. Different paths that lead to maybe different places or maybe the same place in the end. I don't think there are that many people holding onto more than two or three offers though. Yes, move yourself towards a decision and release offers, but you should think about what you're doing first.

Re: 2013 UVA OGI Thread
Hopefully this will be encouraging to some and eye opening to others (I'm looking at you, 0Ls), but I just received (and accepted on the spot) an offer from an OGI firm.
I'm slightly below median and targeted DC firms during OGI without doing any mass mailing because I thought I was a special snowflake. Despite reading TLS for 3+ years now, it took only getting 4 pre-selects (plus 3 alternates and 7 lotteries), resulting in one callback, and finally one offer to realize that striking out was even a possibility, let alone probability for me. Thank god that it only takes one. Before OGI I wasn't really interested in this firm because it's small, pays slightly below market, and lacks preftige. After my callback I was held for three weeks while, more likely than not, other offers for this three-person class were outstanding. I can't even tell you how fucking thrilled I am and how lucky I feel right now.
Best of luck to everyone still hustling.

Re: 2013 UVA OGI Thread
As an FYI, there are still many firms still filling their summer classes. Don't just sit around and wait for career services to add them. If they are calling career services that means that they will be looking for resumes before hand, and many of these firms are probably not going to go through the work of calling Donovan when they have students from 200 schools e-mailing them on their own. An argument can be made that it's easier to get jerbs from mass mailing because you often get to bypass the screener, and jump right to the 25%+ chance of getting an offer. DC seems to be done, but literally every other market is still possible.Anonymous User wrote:Officially struck out... good luck to everyone else!

How are things going for people?
Curious if most people have something lined up at this point. Do people think the market is better this year?
