Anybody else having a rough time out there? Top 25% targeting a couple major markets and I have 4-5 CBs out of roughly 17-20 interviews so far (virtually all interviews were at least 48 hours ago and most were in the first week). Did a ton of mocks with career services/alumni and got good reviews (my main mistake in a couple mocks was apparently making comments that could be taken as political which I've definitely stayed away from so far in the actual screeners). But people generally said I was appropriately serious but also personable. I have a targeted practice area and a pitch that basically describes how my life story/work experience have led me to want that area although I'm not targeting a specific practice group yet. Also thought I had an appropriate number of safeties (or as close as you can really get to a safety, basically a bunch of firms with decent class sizes that are below V30 and V50). So I'm not sure if I'm just screwing up interviews, grades/work experience aren't good enough, or if something else is going wrong. Or if this is just normal?

you have 4-5 CBs as someone in top 25%, that's normal. and it's only august 21. don't worry yet... keep applying though.

Converting 1 in 4 screeners is not screwing up. This isn't law school admissions where you can easily predict where you are getting in and where you aren't. There's a human element, there's a grades element, there's a "your interview may have gone well but the other interviews went better" element, etc.

This. You are doing fine. But until you have an offer keep applying.

Anon OP, thanks, guess I should invest in a therapist.
By keep applying, what do you mean? I did massmails for 4 markets a few weeks ago (a couple hundred emails/apps in total) and 1 of my CBs came out of that, should I keep going down the NLJ250? I have one more market that I have a tenuous tie to where I can start applying, but I feel like if I start applying to Texas for example, firms are going to smell BS because I haven't gone within 500 miles of Texas in my life and have no interest in going closer.

1) 5 is good.
2) V30-50 aren't "safeties". First of all, there is no such thing. A firm who isn't grade selective, isn't going to wet themselves at the thought of your 3.65 GPA. Second, your GPA range is about right on track for V30-50.
3) There is a definite drop off after top 15-20%, and you are on the wrong side of it. Your grades alone are not getting you callbacks at a 3.65gpa.
4) Check your assburgers if you didn't think about how this would upset people who don't have any CB's yet.

I realize that I'm really lucky comparatively and I'm obviously not doing laps around the school screaming about my CBs, thus the reason for posting here.
Was more just curious whether I was underperforming so that I could try to figure out if there are things that I should be working on or whether my performance was normal (that's why I posted in the first place).
Apparently I'm alright though and sincerely sorry to anyone that may have been upset, if a mod wants to edit/redact my post, I have zero problem with it, really wasn't trying to be insensitive (again, the reason for anon posting as opposed to talking to people IRL).

If we haven't heard back from screeners last week, does that mean it's pretty much a ding?

There is no hard cutoff. The more time elapses, the less likely you are to get a CB, but some CBs do happen later (I've heard of some CBs going out over a month later). That said, you shouldn't be pining or doing nothing. If you haven't heard, you should act as if you are dinged and forget about it. If you don't have an offer (or don't have an offer you like), you should keep hustling.

Sorry about that. I think you are still in the running for Katten if others have heard from Katten both ways (CB/ding). May I ask who you interviewed with (initials) for Mayer Brown Chicago? Also, what was the form of the ding? E-mail or snail mail? I'm still waiting to hear from them, that's why. Thanks, and good luck!
