NU OCI 2013/The Great Jerb Hunt
Employer list is up, you can make online OCS appts now, and grades will be released soon. Let's get it started.
All jerb discussion is welcome here, not just OCI.
Taking gifs/memes. (And useful links and information, I suppose.)

Best wishes to all. Upside is that being a summer associate is probably one of the best jobs in the world.

They post a spreadsheet to symplicity eventually. Maybe it's not up yet.
Protip for people ITT: everyone should mass mail. I don't care if you're #1 in the class, you should mass mail just like everyone else.

Looks like it's not up anymore. PM me your email if you want a copy, but like bk said, they will probably be posting an updated one soon.chill wrote:Okay, this may be dumb: where do we find the historic OCI firm GPA cutoffs/breakdown? I think I have poked into every corner of Symplicity and CareerSpace and am probably missing some glaring CLICK HERE, IDIOT link. Help me find it?

Seriously. You should stop reading this and go work on mass mailing. Get on it slackers.bk187 wrote:They post a spreadsheet to symplicity eventually. Maybe it's not up yet.

Re: NU OCI 2013/The Great Jerb Hunt
Way too early to mass mail without spring semester grades. Once you've got spring semester you can send to some of the early recruiters (Quinn is the only one that comes to mind). Regular mass mail usually starts right before OCI (late July or early August)fishfry111 wrote:You mean prep massmail letters to send out later, right? Correct. It's not too early to start prepping your materials and cover letters to send them all out when that time rolls around.bdubs wrote:Way too early to mass mail without spring semester grades. Yes. Though you will want to start mailing to the firms that don't attend OCI before OCI starts.fishfry111 wrote:Just about finished with first draft of cover letter. Am I right in assuming that these letters will be addressed to firms (offices) that don't participate (or where I don't get an interview spot) at OCI?

Here's a good activity the class of 2015 can work on right now: what cities do you want to bid on in OCI, vs. which cities will you target outside OCI? Last year I remember people realizing really late that a NY+DC+LA+SF+Chicago bid list wasn't a good idea, then freaking out trying to fix it at the last minute.

+1 - Unless you have a coherent reason to be picking the firms that you're picking (i.e. some kind of ties to everywhere but NY + more firm specific reasons). I managed to make that bid list work last year, but I did have to dodge questions about markets a few times. Also, doing callbacks on two sides of the country sucks.Bumi wrote:Last year I remember people realizing really late that a NY+DC+LA+SF+Chicago bid list wasn't a good idea, then freaking out trying to fix it at the last minute.

It's also helpful to think about this now because if you figure out in advance which major markets you're gonna target in OCI, you will be able to mail/target the other major markets before OCI. It's good to have a coherent strategy rather than the last-minute-panic (or last-minute-who-cares) method a lot of people use.

I am also having trouble finding how many interview slots are available. Am I blind? Will this information be posted later? Does the lack of this information have anything to do with K&E Chicago not being on the employer list for OCI?

That info is not yet available. And I don't believe there is published data on past years. Sorry, you'll just have to wait. :/LHLH wrote:I am also having trouble finding how many interview slots are available. Am I blind? Will this information be posted later? Btw 2Ls can be great resources if you need help. Reach out to them. But obviously not for things like when stuff will be available.

Re: NU OCI 2013/The Great Jerb Hunt
Sorry if this is an obvious question, but:
Is it best to do all mass mailing before OCI, or only for the firms that won't be attending? Specifically, if I want to target one market at OCI and another through mass mailing, can I mail to firms in the second market even if they are going to be at OCI, or will I get responses like "Thanks for your interest, please interview with us when we visit your school for On Campus Interviewing"?

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
