If anyone is in Chicago this week with nothing to do, the boss is trying a cop-killer case at 26th & California in courtroom 600. Started this morning.

I am in Chicago apartment hunting on Thursday. Do you think the case will still be going on? Is the court room open to the public? I would love to stop in. Thanks for the post.

Yes to both questions. You can read about the case here.

If any of you didn't clerk for the Office, or clerked in a non-courtroom division, this month would be a great opportunity to go and observe the felony courtrooms in general. We won't get much of a chance for a while once we start working. If you go during the middle of the week (Tues/Wed/Thurs) you can usually catch a jury trial in progress.

That is awesome. I did not realize the courtrooms are open to the public. After get my apartment, I am going to spend a lot of time watching. Thank you so much for your post.

Bar results are out. Good luck everyone! Maybe soon we'll hear something more concrete from the office.

Yes Bar results are out. I am hoping we hear something concrete from the office soon. In the meantime, I am looking forward to apartment hunting and watching felony court.

Yup. Just passed the bar, and my last name starts with M, for anyone who is still waiting for results. I've heard that they haphazardly release names on the 1st, so there's some panic by people who haven't gotten their results yet.

I normally don't do post-mortems on exams, but I do have to ask this one question; how did you guys answer that wills question? It was the last one on the exam, and it was definitely a WTf?!?!! moment when I read it.

Has anyone heard from the office regarding hiring dates? Does anyone know what they are doing regarding signing a lease? I am apartment hunting in Chicago and am wondering how to proceed.

Re: Cook County ASA Class of 2013
I reported my bar passage and address change and they sent me a message simply saying that they received the information. They need to give me something more concrete than that because I'm getting ready to move, and I don't want to end up blowing in the breeze if they decide to start some of us in January.Anonymous User wrote:Has anyone heard from the office regarding hiring dates? Thanks for the response. Yes, I did the same thing. Only difference is I spent the last few days in Chicago and am signing a lease. If we start in January or later, I am going to have to look for temp work. For apartment hunting, check out Irving park, Albany park, and the Logan Square areas. The rents are a little cheaper and the area seems okay. Trulia is a good source to use for apartment hunting. PM if you want to exchange contact information. Good Luck.

Re: Cook County ASA Class of 2013
I think so, depending on who is posting on this board. The ASA I spoke with told me that the priority right now is getting in the out-of-staters for the November start date, and then moving on to the in-staters. I wonder how many of us are going to be there to be sworn in on the 1st.

Yep, I am starting 11/4 and excited not to have to start in January. Is everyone getting processed on 10/16 or 10/17? It is nice to start with a class of new attorneys. I look forward to working with everyone.

Has everyone been told when they're starting? How were you told? Anyone still haven't heard from them regarding their start date? I still haven't received a call with any sort of information.

Re: Cook County ASA Class of 2013
I received a phone call yesterday with the 11/4 start date. I think if you didn't get a call it's possible you have a different start date. Like another poster said, it sounds like the out-of-staters got priority.

There must not be that many people from out of state because I know people who live in Chicago who are starting Nov. 4th. I just wish they'd let the rest of us know what our fate is; especially when we have families to support.

Looks like we got about $2 million less than what we asked for in the 2014 budget (LinkRemoved).
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
