Quinn Emmanuel Layoffs underway?

Post by Anonymous User » Sat May 11, 2013 1:44 am

There is chatter on another board about layoffs underway at Quinn Emmanuel. Anyone else hear about this from credible inside sources?

Probably false. Seems like every few weeks someone will start a rumor about layoffs at a firm by anonymously posting on AutoAdmit and/or TLS.

There was 1 guy claiming it was happening and one guy, who pretty successfully proved he actually worked there, said he had no indications it was happening. The first guy was making pretty outrageous claims like 25% are going to be cut. If that was happening, it wouldn't just be one dood on xoxo.

The same shit went down on XO two or three months about re: Latham and it was bullshit.

So I think it's either totally flame, or somewhat confined Stealthing. The kind of Stealth layoff that might be kind of hidden. It's certainly not huge layoffs.

A fairly reliable poster (Rudolph) has substantiated the rumor, fwiw.

There is a Rudolph gambling joke in there somewhere.

But I'll believe it now. Interesting development.

Didn't Rudolph just say that some guy told him layoffs were happening? That's still hearsay. It might be an angry associate who was stealthed who's trying to make it look like more than it really is.

From searching his name, it looks like he's well-known for being wrong: http://www.xoxohth.com/main.php?PHPSESS ... qu=rudolph

Some of those thread titles are actually kind of funny.

Unsubstantiated layoff rumors are always fun. The plausibility comes from what everyone has heard, which is that their NY & DC offices have been slow for a while. (Even ATL alluded to this in that Skadden partner hire story.)

Know someone who just accepted an offer there as a first year. Turned down Gibson. Got a salary boost to choose Quinn.

About a year (maybe 2 now?) ago I heard quinn was hunting for lateral associates from various V5/10 type firms. Haven't heard anything about them since.

QE, like alot biglaw firms, do this quite often and periodically. It's just rebalancing their mix of varying levels of seniority amongst the associate ranks that natural attrition did not take care of.

All well-run firms do this.

Well, first of all WLRK is not "big law".

But that said, they are "well-run" and so yes it happens there. Why wouldn't it. "Layoffs" or whatever else you want to call it at Wachtell simply doesn't generate the ripple effects because they have so few attorneys (comparatively speaking).

What do you think happens to all those folks who do not make partner. Yes, they have great lateral opportunities, but lots of those people who leave do so as their second choice.

C'mon, dude. Watchell takes in, what?, something like 25 SA/year? And they make how many partners per year on average? 2?

Makes sense, but it's just weird to think about Wachtell associates getting shown the door. Also, I'd hardly call this "rebalancing" since Wachtell just hires a bunch of counsel types if they really need extra help and then lets them go when they're no longer busy.

Can someone explain to me why XOXO/Autoadmit seems so shitty, particularly the layout? And why are so many replies/comments just completely blank? Some of the bros are pretty funny though.

It's like quoting or up voting it / agreeing with post. Johnsmeyer needs to post on TLS guy is classic.

Eh. TLS has its own problems. Maybe not with the layout, but definitely with some of the consummate aspies who post here.
