K-JD --> Viable for someone with no other options?

Post by Anonymous User » Mon Jan 07, 2013 2:07 pm

If you don't want the story, read bolded:

I made the huge mistake of majoring in Politics because I wanted to go to law school and I felt it would be easy to keep a high GPA.
Good news is that the GPA part worked out, bad news is that I can't find a job. I've applied everywhere: consulting, finance, accounting, IT, list goes on...
My problem is not poor interviewing, its actually GETTING an interview. I've applied to 200+ entry level positions and haven't gotten a call back. I just don't get it.

I'm scared out of my mind about debt and not being able to find a job upon graduation from law school. I have about $85,000 in undergraduate debt. My numbers put me in at most of the T14 with reasonable shot at one of HYS at least. Can I reasonably expect to go to law school K-JD and land a job afterwards? or is it too much a gamble and I shouldn't even go t14 without reasonable scholly?

Also interested in any input about how getting a JD would impact my chances of getting into another well-paying field such as management consulting, etc.

If you get into one of HYS yes it is a viable option. Other than that I would only consider it if you could go for free to a top 14 or a VERY strong regional in the area you want to practice in for free (i.e. if you are OK with Texas and can get UT for free go there). You just have too much debt to consider going to a non HYS school for a significant amount of money. Look into 1 year masters degree programs in Management information systems. These degrees are not too expensive and there are a decent bit of IT consulting etc. type of jobs that will value the degree.
