Upcoming interview for post grad position. Anyone have experience with these? Are they substantive?

Any idea what the odds are at this point? 1/100? 1/10? Do they make exploding offers?

I used to work at State and knew a few people in legal. Not sure the specifics, but I was told they have hundreds of applications for a few slots, like single digits. Its a small office.

Ive heard 1 in 15 applicants may get an interview, and 3 of the 15 may get an offer.
Anyone know anything more concrete?

Odds are pretty good...they don't interview a ton of people, but get hundreds of applications. The odds are less than 1/100, but prob closer to 1/5.

As a current employee of a different federal agency actively looking for work with other federal agencies I keep bumping into hiring freezes at most agencies because of recent budget cuts and uncertainty about the continuing budget resolution nearing its end date. I don't know specifically about the State Department. Most agencies are still floating job openings, collecting resumes, and interviewing with the intention of hiring after a budget resolution, but my agency is not expected to make offers until after a budget or new continuing resolution is passed. If I were in your shoes and needed info if you know anyone at the State I'd discreetly ask.

I know someone who got a job at State and it took 8 months from application to hiring.
