I also received an offer, which I accepted. I was the person who got a Wait-List e-mail earlier this week. Apparently, that was an accident. That explains why no one else heard back when I did. Congrats to everyone. See you soon!

I should have added that I go to school in DC, but I am from Chicago. I am a July bar taker. Good luck to everyone!

I am happy for you. One of your posts encouraged me when I thought I did not get the position. It looks like several posters on this blog received good news yesterday. Congrats to all!

Does anyone know if all offers have been extended? Or will they continue calling people next week? Has anyone received a rejection letter or phone call yet?

I would imagine some offers might still go out because calls were made late Friday evening and some people might turn it down. They also will create the WL. Hang in there! I think there is still some hope.

Does anyone know what the residence requirement is? Do you have to live in the city, or can you also set up in the burbs?

I haven't read the manual yet, but I know of multiple ASAs who live outside of Cook County. So probably not.

I think technically you have to live in Cook County, which includes Chicago and a number of suburbs. Not sure they enforce it.

One of the bosses is a County Board member in another county. There is an article out there that says he is not required to live in Cook County. Don't know if that was an exception or something. Anyways I imagine we will find out next week when the paperwork comes.

Hi All; does anyone know the city? I think I would like to live in the burbs and take the train in. (I am willing to have a 30 minute commute) Any thoughts where I should start looking?

LOL, in Chicago you don't will anything when it comes to the commute. The commute wills you.

I would suggest taking a look at a map of the county. For your first assignment, you might be anywhere in the City of Chicago. After your first assignment, you might be anywhere in Cook County. So not really being able to predict your location kinda gives you less control over your commute. Also, a lot of the courthouses are not very accessible by train, so you'll probably want to have a car.

That said, some of the near west suburbs like Oak Park or Berwyn are going to be more central and public transit-friendly. I think some ASAs also live in the southwest suburbs like Palos Heights or Orland Park, but that's a bit of a gamble commute-wise if you're assigned somewhere farther north.

Hope that helps!

Thank you so much. Yes, I am not from a big city. I did not realize that the court houses were spread throughout the city. I really appreciate the help. I will look at the areas you mentioned.

Cook county doesn't have night court, does it? I know that Philly and some of the Burroughs in New York do, but I can't find anything in re Chicago.

I think they used to for narcotics but don't anymore? Not quite sure about that. But felony review is a 24/7/365 gig.

I was wondering if anyone has received their paper offer yet? Do you think the offer states what section we start in? I am really hoping for muni. Does anyone else have any thoughts about what section they want to work in?

I started a new thread so we can consolidate all the questions and everything else about the office. Hopefully everyone with an offer follows over to that thread.
