I have heard directly from a Director at the national office that they would make 2-3 offers before the fiscal cliff, and they would revisit the issue after the fiscal cliff. At the time (mid December), they said they still expected to hire about 10 people--for both national and regional offices, I believe. This was all still dependent on resolution of the fiscal situation, of course, so I'm not sure what the situation is like now.

Thanks! Good to finally get some solid information.

I was too busy with journal stuff over break to follow the fiscal cliff news that closely. My understanding is that they largely kicked the can down the road and will deal with the sequestration cuts in a couple months. What that means here ... I don't know. But it may be that the budget situation is just as tenuous / unclear as it was before the tax deal was made in early January.

So are they planning on making more offers once they resolve the budget?

I inquired into the process and was told they had pretty much wrapped things up. They will be contacting all candidates pretty soon.

I am a little unclear as to what you mean. Do you mean that all offers have been extended?

I just got an e-mailf from the person that interviewed me. She said that offers are going out this week, and we should hear by the end of next week one way or the other. I wouldn't give up hope just yet.

Nothing here. I wonder how many people they have rejected, and what it means for those who haven't yet been contacted. Are we on some sort of waiting list?

popping in from the dead FCC thread to comment. we have been waiting ages. if you go there you can see there was a raft of rejected finalists (about 25 finalists), some second hand reports of offers (although i don't know how much credence to give them - some people get FCC and FTC confused too, although it could just be sad hope), and now... crickets.

what i think is happening is that they sure would like to hire us, but they can't until the budget is resolved. certainly any open offers have been accepted or rejected by now, as they were supposedly given out late december. approaching mid-feb you'd think they would give an update or finally reject us.

so basically what it boils down to is that they're always able to hire 2 or 3 people. they did that. now they have everyone else they'd like to hire on hold for budget reasons. but that doesn't mean i have really any hope. sequester is going to happen, it's either going to be terrible or not that big of a deal, and some deal will be hammered out in which we are all screwed.

sorry for this meaningless post.

Here's what I know...if you didn't get a rejection it means they are still considering your application. They are hoping to make final decisions in the next 2-3 weeks.
