T10
School Doesn't Rank
EOIR
Target: Anywhere

Lots of immigration and refugee law experience.

Still at Application Received. I'm not going to panic yet though as I imagine they are still doing elibility review.

"Application received" and I know for a fact they're calling recommenders.

They are? Scary. I haven't heard anything from mine yet, and I've been referred to components. Do you know which component is calling?

Do not freak out if you haven't been referred to component or heard that your references have been contacted. Different people in each component are all reviewing applications. Some are going to take a very different approach.

Last year, interview offers went out on Wednesday, August 28. It's likely going to be a week before we know anything definitive.

Do all the components contact recommenders at this stage? Last year's DOJ thread made it sound like for EOIR at least, that recommenders weren't contacted until after interviews.

EOIR: application referred to component today (this was the only division to which I applied)

My recommenders told me they'd let me know if they were contacted, so I'll let you know if I hear anything. Best of luck to all.

Just as a heads up, if your status has not changed, try logging off and then logging back on. Sometimes it doesn't update if you stay logged in...

Grades: Top 10%
Journal: Law Review and Secondary IP Journal
Department: Antitrust
Geographic Target: DC or San Francisco

Experience: All public interest. Been working in antitrust at the AG's office in a big state since the start of 2L year (except for a couple months this summer doing non-antitrust government work in DC) and am still there. Got to check the box for intellectual property experience and coursework; I'll have taken 4 IP classes at the end of this semester. No economics degree.

Found out today that they called my supervisor at the AG's. Sometime between yesterday and right now, my status changed to "referred to Components." So excited. =D

Did you list your employer as a reference, or just as an employer that was OK to contact?

Current Status: Application referred to Components.

Does this mean anything?

Stats: TT, Top 9%, Secondary Journal, MC, WE, DOJ externships.

I think "Application Referred to Components" just means that all the applications were sent to the component, and they can review them whenever they get around to it. If you look on the DOJ website, it lists the deadlines to submit additional materials (writing samples, veterans preference, etc.) if you get selected for an interview. Most of those deadlines are relatively soon, so I would assume that they will be considering applications soon if they aren't doing so already.

Does anyone have any idea how many people they interview for the various components? (I'm obviously asking for information based on previous years.)

I'm specifically interested in the Civil Rights and Civil components. Thanks.

I think all the applications get referred to the components.

Mine says the same, but I just converted from Honors to SLIP this week.

Just an employer that was OK to contact, but I fully expected them to call this person because I've been at this internship for a long time, it's the same practice area, and the odds were good that someone on the hiring committee would know him.
