Should I Suggest a Phone Screener?

Postby Anonymous User » Sat Sep 08, 2012 5:13 pm

I mass mailed a Philly mid-law firm and the hiring partner asked me when I'd be in Philly. he said he'd meet with me when I was in town. I take this to be a screener. I go to Cornell, so this will be a bit of a trip for me. Should I suggest a phone screener instead? Or should I just suck it up and fly down?

I had a similar thing happen with a Midwest V100. They said they would schedule a CB basically whenever I was in the city. I had no plans to be in the city. I asked if they would be interested in a videoconference or phone interview. They said no. I was sad. The end.

I don't think it can hurt. Since it was a partner and apparently seems more like a screener, I think he would be more likely to be okay with it. It might also benefit you to express your willingness to travel, but that a phone interview would be more affordable or something.

The same thing happened with me with a Philly-based firm (but in a different city). Wondering if it's their policy. Except I have to fly to the opposite coast, they can't meet me while I'll be there, and they didn't offer to pay for the change of ticket.
