Legal employment and medical marijuana

Postby Anonymous User » Mon Sep 03, 2012 12:56 am

So… I just graduated from a T14 (could be HYS; I won’t say which school) and will be doing California V100 (could be V10; I won’t say which firm) BIGLAW. I know that these BIGLAW jobs tend to only last for about 2-5 years, that I will inevitably need to start looking for another job at some point, and that the government is one of the main employers of lawyers. Does anyone know of any lawyers that got a medical marijuana card and that had trouble finding a government job afterwards as a result of copping dat weed card? Obviously AUSA is out (I’m not willing to lie about my drug use), but what about other government jobs? Also, what about non-government jobs? My impression is that as long as you aren’t smoking pot at work, as you long as you aren't blatantly advertising your use to partners/other associates, and as long as it doesn’t interfere with your ability to get your work done, large law firms most definitely do NOT care, but maybe other employers do. Thanks!

Mods: for obvious reasons, I am posting this anonymously. Others: if you have nothing to contribute (i.e. if you don't know a lawyer that got a medical marijuana card), please don't reply. I'm aware that marijuana is illegal under federal law.
