Get enough years out of you, I guess. I wonder what the starting pay is.

Good find.

Over $80k iirc. The job apparently sucks the life out of you, is incredibly stressful, and frequently leads to heart attacks, strokes, depression, anxiety and suicide. But the pay and retirement are pretty sweet.

Doesn't sound worse than the side effects of the Vale.

True. And you end up making 6 figures fairly rapidly. Plus, as FAA employees you could totally do the ten year public service option (if you are over $200k in debt).

$37K, starting, but the median pay plus PAYE/PSLF would make it a sweet ass gig, pay wise. Stress wise, the job's gonna be a bitch.

Moar info

Also have to go through a psych test.

I think ATC is widely considered the most stressful job on the planet. One mistake and boom.

Hasn't anyone seen Breaking Bad?

Interesting. I was way off.

That said, if median is over 100k, there must be some fairly rapid advancement in pay if they are starting at less than 40k.

Yeah 37 has to be training pay right? then going up to 60 or so? I would think starting pay would be closer to 80. You are a fucking air traffic controller. Things you do could have huge consequences.

I would do this but I struggle with attention to detail.

In Spain you get paid over 400k (euros mind you) for that job. In US not as much... but... this is one of the toughest jobs to get. It was my college friends dream job and after two years of trying nothing came from it.

I think $17K is the training pay rate. $37k is the 1st year rate. No idea how the pay goes after that, aside that the bottom 10% of all ATC people are making $60K, and the upper pay bound is like $120K. No idea how it all works out, but I can imagine things like seniority, the state and airport/center you work at affecting pay. Plus I think your 1st year is heavily supervised. Dunno for sure.

Yeah, and their hiring might be a bit odd. In 2007, know a guy from HS who got an ATC job with no aviation experience & no real work experience. He was hired right out of college. I also know a guy who majored in ATC, has a CFI, a CFII, Multi-time, etc who's been trying to get an ATC jerb since like 2012. No dice. Political gamesmanship/shutdowns/sequesters might play a role in the ATC majoring bro's lack of an ATC jerb though.

DC Public Defenders just announced they are hiring for a fall 2014 class when they previously were not. Applications due March 10 and appear to take a ton of time. 3Ls and recent grads can apply.

Is the link on their website?

ETA: Never mind. Geez, only hiring 3 people. There is no damn way I'd be competitive. Though ill apply anyway.

I already know someone who received an offer (they clerked and did a fellowship). I wonder if they're part of the 3?

I'm currently at PDS, so I can ask my supervisor what credentials are competitive and report back.

Are there any good job sites for 3Ls? Besides Indeed, Simply Hired, etc.

PSJD, Symplicity reciprocity, Local Bar Assn websites, GovernmentJobs, etc.

Just had an interview to be a Lexis sales rep. Base pay (50-60K) + commission. Also sounds like they promote from within. Just wanna know if I can get back into real legal work from it, but probably not.

That's way better than what a lot of law jobs pay. I wonder what %age of the sales reps have JDs.

No idea how many JDs they have (but I'm betting more have JDs than don't). Still, for $55k I'd do it, esp. since I think my legal career has already crashed and burned.

Joining the vale.

Will be graduating magna from a TT.
Focused on the area of law the school is known for (realizing now that may be lipservice).
Masters degree in a parallel field.
10 years federal government experience.
I don't drag my knuckles when I walk.

Last summer's associateship fell through when the firm's office closed.
Got lucky to find a summer federal clerk position last minute.
Judge has since filled the clerk positions.
Been scrambling ever since.
Not sure there's a firm in my field left to contact.

Was staying fairly (naively) optimistic until this afternoon when my current boss called me idealistic then offered me a contract position for $22k without benefits.

Ass.

If you give us some more information about your masters and law school focus, we may be able to help.

Thanks for seeing through my jadedness

Masters in Public Health - worked in health policy. My old federal job has been obsoletized (yes, wordsmithing) by PPACA.

Law school focus has been on the regulatory side of healthcare. No journal - fairly shitty first semester; 3.88 if that semester is discounted.

Have you looked into Healthcare Compliance? I'd imagine it's a pretty hot sector right now, though I admit I'm not very knowledgeable about that industry. I did find this, which may or may not be helpful for you:
