There is actually no point at which this gig would not be awesome. Congrats!

I just secured a position as a staff attorney at a vault firm. At this point, $100k for fifty hours a week of document review and research memos sounds really, really, really awesome. Don't give up!

100k as a staff attorney sounds great...how did you find that position?

Alumni who is a partner in charge of coordinating the staff attorneys contacted the school and said they were looking to add several. Sent in a resume early December and got a screener for last week that sort of morphed into a more substantial interview. They say they are fairly adamant about not exceeding 50 hours a week, and I may have the chance to engage in some pro bono to gain substantive experience. Obviously some long term limitations, but for a few years to gain some connections and pay off some debt, this is amazing!

Also, just for the record: T30+Magna (every interviewer was always "shocked" I didn't have a job... Then wouldn't offer me one)

Anyone feel like this too?

I'm delaying the pain of job questing by studying for the bar (2nd round), though.

Well, if it makes you feel better, technically this could include jobs at Walmart or the local fast food joint. So don't feel too bad and certainly don't lose hope. Internalize that the profession is going through changes and adjustments and that the market is in the tank. It is really not you who is at fault here but the totality of circumstances. While I understand that this won't help you put food on the table it is nevertheless important for you to attempt to keep a positive attitude. Prospective employers smell despair. Don't give them an easy reason to reject you.

Hang in there, kid. This too shall pass.

I bet some of those people raised their hands just so they wouldn't look bad. And wow, an asshole move by the prof.

Unless he was going to offer to help the unemployed grads get jobs, he should not mention jobs. Even then, it should be more of a general offer to help without this childish raising hands stuff.

I would bet that more than a few people don't have jobs unless there are only a small number of 3Ls in the class.

Been a lurker on here for awhile - May 2013 grad. I'm fresh out of the vale and into a banking compliance gig at a major bank in NYC. The money isn't close to big law, but there seems to be a career to be had in it. Good luck to all, keep your heads up, and keep faith in yourself. I, like many on here, hit rock bottom in terms of confidence, emotional stability, etc. Just gotta push forward.

Few Questions:

1. I withdrew and resubmitted a position on simplicity. Do HR people see all this and care?

2. What do you think about career associate positions at large law firms?

3. Networking Skadden? Good idea?

1. Depends on the firm. Not much you can do now.

2. Money = money at this stage of the game

3. Why not? Free coffee = free coffee. Just don't expect a jerb.

Career associate is legit. The pay is great, and frequently, the hours are substantially less (think 45-55 per week). Also, it is possible to lateral into a partner track position at other firms.
