You made an (albeit poorly) disguised company reference very glaringly public. If someone doesn't want the thread to know the name of the company/firm they are interviewing with, it is not your job to disclose that to the thread for them. It was a dick move, and if you can't see that, I'm embarrassed for you. Not to mention the joke was kind of in poor form in the first place even if the OP had come right out and said what company it was for IIRC.

Sorry "cussing" bothers you bro, I didn't realize you were 12. I'll start filtering my posts like you do so I don't hurt your "füçking" ego and you can keep on talking "$hit" about everyone in here working our "@sses" off to find jobs and being DISCOURAGED about the people getting those jobs over us, NOT talking "$hit."

However, there are some people who received 1L and they were non-URMs. My 1L is through a diversity initiative program. I had to write an essay and do other stuff. However, this program also included straight white males.

The reason why I received a callback 2L year, wasn't because of my skin. I attended a diversity career fair and two of the callbacks were from that. I made a connection with the interviewing people. I had one call-back through my school's OCI (out of 40 or so applications). Initially, they didn't even offer interview me (because of my grades). However, I took the initiative and received an interview. They liked that trait and I impressed them in the interview. However, ultimately, the job went to a straight white male, who, I believe did not have strong grades either. But he did have strong WE.

I've been all over the country looking for jobs. Hiring people LOVE my resume. However, when it comes to asking for the transcript, they all run away. It's not even like my grades are horrible. It is two classes that are bringing my gpa down. Otherwise, I'd just be at median.
URM with grades below median (but not horrible, even though 2 of his 1L grades are below median) can't get a job because all the straight white males with bad grades (not to talk smack about them) are taking them. It's so unfair that legal employers consider grades.
I don't know what you are trying to accomplish. I never said I can't get a job because straight white males are getting them. You seem to distort what I say. You should probably focus on something else, rather then bringing my comments on other threads and searching my posts.

Anyways...

In other news, I had one interview cancelled on me (the day of, thankfully was phone interview) b/c the firm is no longer hiring, but then got contacted by a public interest firm for a potential fellowship position. So guess come out neutral today. My industry mass mail through a professor hasn't worked out too well, so maybe need to look for another industry to mass mail.

Also got admitted today, and have to say I was underwhelmed by the ceremony (first department NY). I don't feel that different and I am still struggling for a real job, but now can change my status on my resume if that helps anything.

Sparty, you know this the thread for 3Ls/grads without jerbs who are riding the struggle bus, right? "Bucking up" or whatever your constant snarky advice is has got shit to do with actually, in real life, getting a job. This thread, on the internet, is where a lot of us come to vent/fall apart/whatever because we desperately need an outlet for it. Pretty sure nobody in here is actually being a sad sack in interviews or in networking or whatever, but we're discouraged in here and commiseration is a lot more helpful. Let that be and quit bringing rudeness in here.

Anyways. I beefed up my go-to cover letter today and it's much more awesome than my last one, which was feeling stale and lame to me. Who knows if this one gets me anywhere, since these are all stabs in the dark, but it should be a good stab... /hopeful

and anon I felt pretty underwhelmed when I got sworn as well. Actually I was downright depressed that afternoon because all the people I talked to that day had jobs and were excited about actually practicing.

This. I got my PA ID in the mail today along with a letter saying that as of today I am officially "barred". I'm not very excited about this and don't think it s a big accomplishment. Getting a job is a big accomplishment which so far has been kinda a failure.

I also had an alum who is in-house at a big company cancel a lunch meeting on me after finding out I don't have a job lined up. He was very eager to help until he asked me what my schedule was to meet and I said I am available at any time during his lunch hour. He then asked where I was working to have such a schedule and I told him I was in the process of looking. He didn't respond again and didn't respond to the followup either. C'est la vie.

OP here. That was shitty on the alum's end, since it's not like he was interviewing you for the company. I would be pissed if that happened to me. I wasn't too upset for my cancellation since it came out of a relatively unsolicited industry mass mail at a firm in a location w/ no ties to and wasn't even aware if they were specifically hiring (was mass mailing mainly to get my name out there and make some contacts w/in the industry).

Dude, that is straight up dirty. Even if I had nothing, I wouldn't cancel. I'd say something to the effect that I had nothing to offer job-wise, but I would still give any advice I had. Could be worse (but not by much). I had a lunch scheduled with an AUSA during 1L because I was interested in his specific practice (hacking and cyber crimes), and he stood me up when I showed up to their office for lunch and never responded to my follow-up email.

Also, when did you send your stuff to the prothonotary? Seems like they turned that around pretty fast considering results were released via mail about a week ago.

I sent the paperwork in the day after we got the results in the mail (I wanna say last Wednesday) and received my PA I.D. # in the mail along with the letter today. The letter says that your official bar card comes 2 weeks later and the wall certificate comes in 6 months :/

That is fast. I only got admitted today after taking the February 2013 exam for New York, and there were people there still being admitted from the July 2012 exam.

What's bizarre about this thread is that so many of you actually expect to get jobs as attorneys (i.e, jobs that require bar passage and/or a J.D.) when only a little better than half of 2012 grads ever found such jobs:

http://www.law.com/jsp/nlj/PubArticleNL ... 0928170014

Word on the internet (Campos blog etc) is that even the 55% number is likely inflated when the gutter, bottom-scraping doc review and traffic court clerkship gigs are factored in.

Yet the tone of "shock" in this thread that no one is biting at your resumes persists. You need to really just sit down and acknowledge that there is no market whatsoever for your education/degree, that the last 3 years of your life have been an expensive and downright foolish waste of time, and that very shortly it will be time to put this "I'm a lawyer" pipedream to bed and confront reality: a lottery was held (1 L grades), your ticket lost (i.e, no OCI/Biglaw) and now your ticket (a JD diploma) is every bit as worthless as a losing scratch-off ticket, and should be treated as such: Throw it in the trash and move on. It has no value, and cannot be converted into any kind of cash/living/job/career. Not today, not tomorrow, and likely never given the extremely poor metrics of the legal industry coupled with obscene over-saturation.

Soon enough (if not already) you'll start to see the "dumb" kids from high school buying their starter homes, having families, and getting by OK on their truck driver/auto mechanic/retail mgmt jobs. Those who went into skilled trades such as plumbing and electrical are likely doing VERY well, and its unlikely given current trends that you'll ever match them/catch up to them in terms of salary, provided you remain in law.

Your best bet would be to throw the wall license/JD in the garbage and enroll in a technical/vocational program ASAP. Welding is a hot area right now, and they are paying top whack in North Dakota to work the oil rigs there. Learn a trade like that and you'll also have side jobs galore: fixing lawnmowers, welding broken farm equipment, etc.

This is because the demand for welders exceeds the supply of welders. Apparently "supply & demand" is a concept that you slept thru in grammar/high school/college and are only now finally aware of. The "law" of supply and demand basically means that when supply of an item/service outstrips the demand, prices/wages for the item or service fall. In the legal industry, the supply of attorneys exceeds the # of jobs by a tremendous margin, making salaries extremely low, and in many cases (likely many on this thread) it means that many will NEVER find paying work as attorneys period. What's sad is that this information has been out there for at least 8 to 9 years, yet for reasons known only to yourselves, you ignored it at your peril.

As a side note, what I find especially funny is how your generation (Millenials or whatever) will adapt to the horse-and-buggy nature of legal practice, given most of you are total Internet/Facebook junkies who never recall life before computers. What an awakening you're in for! The law remains obsessed with 1950s era things like "snail mail," writing actual letters, "certified" mail, carbon paper, staples - hell, my office even has a 1960s IBM typewriter that my secretary clanks away at! Many older lawyers don't even computers or cell phones. Also, nothing is done quickly or efficiently- the entire goal of the legal system is myopic focus on minutae and procedural BS, most of which accomplishes nothing and makes utterly no sense whatsoever. To say law is a miserable career is the understatement of the century. My hunch is that most of you are going to despise it with a passion even if you were to find a job (which is unlikely).

Hope this was helpful, and BTW looks like Patton Boggs might be swirling down the toilet today, so at least if any of your friends are due to start there soon, you can rejoice that they'll prolly get squeezed out and end up in your shoes soon. Rejoice in their failure and misery, can't wait to see them start boo-hoo-hooing on here about how "unfair' it is that the rug was pulled out from under them. Like anyone would ever have faith in a business with a name like "Patton Boggs" - it sounds like some 1920s blues singer or the name of a toilet plunger or soemthing.

What you need to prepare for is the idea of NEVER finding work as am attorney. Period. Along with that theme, prepare for the shame/embarassment of facing shitboomer relatives who all assume there's something "wrong" with you (i.e, stupid, lazy, terrible public speaker, etc) since all ShiotBoomers see law as a super-duper degree and anyone not making big $$$ like their boomer pals (or LOL not even able to land a job/living with parents) and thus you must really be a major league loser. This theme will also likely apply in spades to your non-college friends. It's hard and it sucks, be prepare yourself for possbily a few years of it until you figure out an alternative career path.

IMO the sooner you forget about being a "lawyer" the better off you'll be.

Vegas odds on this being yet another sirpartner alt are 1:1. Any takers?

Along with that theme, prepare for the shame/embarassment of facing shitboomer relatives who all assume there's something "wrong" with you (i.e, stupid, lazy, terrible public speaker, etc) since all ShiotBoomers see law as a super-duper degree and anyone not making big $$$ like their boomer pals (or LOL not even able to land a job/living with parents) and thus you must really be a major league loser. This theme will also likely apply in spades to your non-college friends. It's hard and it sucks, be prepare yourself for possbily a few years of it until you figure out an alternative career path.

IMO the sooner you forget about being a "lawyer" the better off you'll be.
get right the eff out.

Being an unemployed grad/3L is shitty enough. Everybody knows this but they still keep coming here to berate people. Get a fucking life.

Wow, sirpartner, I don't know what's more pathetic: your post or the fact that you can't afford to buy your secretary a desktop to send out correspondences. I have not run into a single respectable lawyer that works without a computer or cell phone. Pretty hilarious.

Nice try, now get the fuck out of here, go back under the bridge from whence you came and say hello to sparty99 while you're there.
