Anyone ever submit "copies" of official transcripts as part of the application? I just paid $15 for my undergrad transcript because one HR person asked me to. Thankfully my school sent me with my diploma a complimentary permanent record (like my diploma's evil twin or something).

Umm...yeah, I do this all the time. My school has this ridiculous policy where you cannot get an unofficial transcript once you graduate and each official transcript copy costs $5. I literally asked "You expect me to pay $5 for each employer I apply to?" and they said yes. I said I'll just scan it in, they said they have special technology that prevents that, I called their bluff and won.

Did anyone ever try to contact a firm they turned down the previous summer? What did you say? It's sort of awkward "hi, you gave me an offer, and I didn't take it. Can I haz it again?"

Yeah I tried feeling it out but nothin doin, at two other places I had offers. Worth trying though. I've heard of people making it work or at least getting some good networking action and a free lunch out of it.

I did it also. Just kissed butt and talked about how much I enjoyed interviewing with them during the prior year. It was a little easier for me since I was able to say I had an offer but was unsure about whether my summer firm would be able to help me reach my long-term career goals. Previous-offer firm was very interested, but hiring needs precluded anything from happening.

Joining the Vale. Rising 3L, T-30, median-ish grades.

Mid-law firm I interned at this summer decided they can't hire anyone full time right now because of ITE, but I'm going to clerk for them and see what happens. Hating it because I specifically chose these guys over another good option for the summer because they gave the impression that they hire all their interns.

If anyone else got "no-offered" from their summer firm or whatever, well I don't really have any consolation for you except this quote from Rumi:

“Don’t grieve. Anything you lose comes round in another form.”

I really hope he is right.

Yeah, I know he isn't. I just want to pep myself (and everyone else ITT) up.

Question: has anyone here ever used "headhunters", like people who get a commission out of getting you a job? Does that even exist in the legal world? I know some relatives (in tech/engineering industries) used them to find job openings that weren't listed elsewhere. Can't seem to find any for lawl students in a google search.

They exist, but not for lawl students

If you mean for law school students, I don't think law school students can do doc review. If you mean for grads, Yorkson Legal, is the name of one staffing company.

My bad I hate posting anon.

Void,

Are you a 3L job hunting?

From that answer I'm assuming you're not. The title of this thread seems pretty clear. No advice foe 0/1/2Ls. Not trying to be a dick but if you're not in the position of being a 3L job hunting you probably should just read and not ask all these questions.

I graduated in May jobless. I actually just accepted an offer on Wednesday but there are some contingencies so I'm still keeping the job search going until I sign a contract. Ok with you?

Congrats Peach on the job! I've been a lurker on here for a while and am happy to find that you finally found something! Quick question though, do you have any loans and if so what's your plan to pay them off on your salary? I'm in a similar boat as you - making around >$50K and although I'm happy to have work, I'm a little petrified on what I'm gonna do once November rolls around and I got $1000 to pay off every month! Any advice anybody??

IBR. PAYE.

Anyone have an idea on which one's better?

PAYE seems better if you can qualify.

Not sure why everyone has taken a liking to berating you for a question. You're cool, d00der.

Not berating. I asked a question he gave an answer.

Thanks, but I understand. There are lots of people in this thread in tough situations, tensions are high, etc. I still personally don't feel like my question was objectionable (especially since the bro answered it without seeming too offended) but again I accept that it was insensitive of me to ask. Anyway, best of luck to everyone.

Received a ding letter from a boutique I interviewed with last month. On the one hand, they were nice enough to send it on official letterhead. On the other hand, they spelled my name wrong and I had hopes because the CB went so well.

I feel like doing what this guy did: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RP4abiHdQpc

It's not really a choice so much as PAYE is the new version of IBR. Depending on when you took out your first student loans, you may qualify for PAYE (anything pre-Sept 2007 and you don't). PAYE is better than the old IBR because it has a shorter forgiveness period and lower % of income for monthly payments, but it is still IBR. It's just a new formula.

Wait, there's a shorter forgiveness period? Shorter than the 120 payments for public service?

No, just shorter than IBR. IBR is 25 years, PAYE is 20, PSLF is 10.
