Just say something like "I know my grades are probably below what you like to see, but..." and give an explanation? Or should I just let it be?

Let it be. Let the judge raise the issue and don't point it out any more than you may have already in an addendum or anything else. Emphasize your strengths.

Thanks. A follow-up question. My connection is fairly tenuous. He wouldn't recognize me at a party, but he knows the family name. Am I correct in assuming that he saw something he liked in my application, otherwise he wouldn't bother with the interview? It's not as if we are best friends or anything, and no one would be upset if he passed me over for an interview.

Yes. I would not assume a federal judge wastes his valuable time giving feel-good interviews to the kids of his friends' friends. And I wouldn't second guess my opportunities. Have some confidence!

Sorry, no, that's a list of judges I'm interested to know if they've called. ditto on the Doty rejection.

oooooh, sorry for the confusion. i'm the one who said it was judges who "HAVE called." faulty assumption. pallmeyer and aspen HAVE called.

to person who posted the list: do you know anything about other NDIll judges?

No, I sure don't—sorry! Everything I know is in the last iteration of that list.

Down to 35 on the CoA hope list because a judge graduated to the new 2013 late mover list.

DC: Randolph
First:
Second: Winter, Newman, Lynch, Straub
Third: Vanaskie
Fourth: Shedd
Fifth: Benavides, Graves
Sixth: Cook, Guy, Clay, Keith, Siler, Martin, Griffin, Stranch,
Seventh: Bauer, Coffey
Eighth: Melloy, Bye, Riley, Shepherd, Loken
Ninth: Kleinfeld, Schroeder, Rawlinson
Tenth: Porfilio
Eleventh: Hull, Kravitch, Barkett, Carnes, Fay

(These are CoA judges we have not heard made calls)

At this point, it seems probable that the judges on the hope list were either not hiring 3Ls to begin with, or have not made calls. Let us see if we can narrow it down further. One way is to consider those judges on the list that accepted applications on Oscar: Melloy, Bye, Riley, Barkett, Kleinfeld, Cook, Siler, Vanaskie, and possibly others (let me know). In addition, consider the judges who have a reported history of late offers: Vanaskie, Rawlinson, Hull, Fay, and possibly others (let me know). Vanaskie appears on both lists. Together, there at least 11 judges out of the 36 who have probably not made calls.

Judges that made calls on Monday or later, for future reference (2013 Late Movers):
Tashima (9th)

Rawlinson usually hires 3Ls (certainly has from my school the last couple of years). She just moves much later than everybody else. Think October, even.
