What is the deal with state court clerkships. I have heard they hire before federal court clerkships. Is this universally true, or also hire after federal court clerkships?Citizen Genet wrote:Credited. This document is dated, but has information about the state courts. Your school may have subscription access to the current version.

Has anyone heard of calls from Judge Brown on the DC Circuit, or Judge Chin on the 2nd Circuit? Also, for district courts, Judge Saylor on D.Mass?

Re: 2012 Clerkship Application Thread
Feeling pretty down, especially since I had some pretty good reasons to think that I would get at least a call or two (personal conversations with judges encouraging me to apply, recommender calls, one of the people with pretty solid stats above). This has been an experience that I'd been looking forward to for a while, so it definitely hurts a bit.

Just got a third interview for a district judge (DNJ) as a result of making parlay phone calls. Seems like those calls can actually work!

Did those of you at HYS/CCN who had top grades and didn't hear back yet apply to really competitive judges/courts? What do you think went wrong?

Re: 2012 Clerkship Application Thread
It honestly seems incredibly random. I've been lucky to hear back from a couple of judges, but not ones that I had professors call or had strong connections to. Others I know have heard silence despite immensely strong credentials and a wide array of applications to varying levels of competitiveness.Anonymous User wrote:Did those of you at HYS/CCN who had top grades and didn't hear back yet apply to really competitive judges/courts? Some judges don't read it. Others scrutinize it and have their clerks go over it too. Assume it will be getting scrutinized and put your best foot forward.Anonymous User wrote:how much does the writing sample matter?

Nothing for this guy. This is basically pure speculation, but it seems that either TLS has zero clerkship applicants in the Southeast or that judges in SE states are not as rigorously on plan as other locations. That's definitely true for firm hiring -- maybe it's that way for judicial stuff too.Anonymous User wrote:Anyone heard anything from Florida?
Looking back through the thread, I don't see a single call for anywhere south of North Carolina.

Marcus in Miami (11th Circuit) definitely made calls last week, though you may well not consider that the "South."Anonymous User wrote:Nothing for this guy.
