Re: 2012 Clerkship Application Thread
Alum here. Just wanted to throw a few encouraging words out here.
I applied from HYS for 2012-13 clerkships as a 3L, but unfortunately struck out. Two things I wanted to point out. First, even though the vast majority of calls/e-mails have indeed already gone out today, just bear in mind that some will still be coming in the next week or so. I got an interview offer from a CD Cal judge (that I was able to parlay into an interview with another CD Cal judge) the Monday after the first wave of calls. I also received an interview offer from a D Mass judge at the end of September.
Second, don't lose heart if you don't land a clerkship immediately. I was very distraught at not getting anything for 2012-13, but I reapplied for 2013-14 clerkships as an alum and was extremely fortunate to land a district court clerkship in an extremely competitive east coast market. Just be persistent.

What do you recommend to do to be "persistent?"Anonymous User wrote:Alum here. Just wanted to throw a few encouraging words out here.

By persistent, I mean don't give up if you don't nab a clerkship for the term you want. Like everyone else, I really wanted a good clerkship for the year right after I graduated, but that just wasn't in the cards. So I worked hard during my 3L fall (much to my chagrin), made pretty good grades, and sent out more applications in March, April, and May of 2012. Thankfully, I landed an awesome clerkship for 2013-14, and I even had to turn down a few other offers afterwards. Applying as an alum is definitely easier than doing so on the "Plan."Anonymous User wrote:What do you recommend to do to be "persistent?"Anonymous User wrote:Alum here. Is it highly inadvisable to cancel an interview without having the excuse of an offer?

No. Way better to cancel beforehand than to turn down an offer.Anonymous User wrote:Is it highly inadvisable to cancel an interview without having the excuse of an offer?
Rule of thumb: don't do the interview if you don't want to accept an offer with that judge.

Re: 2012 Clerkship Application Thread
I'm the only one that posted a DE call, otherwise I'd tell you the judge. Post non-anon or a throwaway email address and I'll PM you. I asked around a bit and I haven't heard of any SNDY Bankr calls or other D. Del calls besides the one I got.Anonymous User wrote:Anyone around here applying to bankruptcy judges? Any movement there?
I do, but 11th Cir. isn't in the cards with my stats. I was thinking in terms of district and BK courts.Anonymous User wrote:Marcus in Miami (11th Circuit) definitely made calls last week, though you may well not consider that the "South."Anonymous User wrote:Nothing for this guy. This is basically pure speculation, but it seems that either TLS has zero clerkship applicants in the Southeast or that judges in SE states are not as rigorously on plan as other locations. That's definitely true for firm hiring -- maybe it's that way for judicial stuff too.Anonymous User wrote:Anyone heard anything from Florida?
Looking back through the thread, I don't see a single call for anywhere south of North Carolina.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
