Wouldn't surprise me if hiring was down from last year, but it is WAY too early to say that.Anonymous User wrote:Is it time to say bloodbath yet?

Is this a joke? After ONE WEEK of screeners? We're like a month away from that. I know plenty of people who have done quite well too. Calm the f down.Anonymous User wrote:Is it time to say bloodbath yet?
Seriously though, I understand people who are panicking. But it's been one week; screeners aren't even over yet. Sure some people are getting CBs when you're not, but I haven't spoken to many people who have racked up the dings. Instead of panicking on TLS and making the school look bad, you should be spending your time mass mailing every secondary market you have a connection to. 'Woe is me' has never gotten anyone a job ever.

Economy sucks, incredibly divergent views for the nation going forward from the two candidates leading to uncertainty, Europe sucks, etcAnonymous User wrote:Why wouldn't you be surprised if hiring was down from last year?jawsthegreat wrote:Wouldn't surprise me if hiring was down from last year, but it is WAY too early to say that.Anonymous User wrote:Is it time to say bloodbath yet?
That said, who knows. Hiring was up last year and the economy was still shit.

Re: UVa OGI Callback Thread
Lots of press about how firms aren't doing great (single digit profits not matching last year, etc.). Heard that DC is slowing down relative to how well it persevered during the crash anecdotally.
Also, in a thread where a handful of people anonymously post, you can never draw generalizations like calling OGI a bloodbath (or saying it's going great). A lot of people keep their heads down and barely anyone is on TLS. It's impossible to say how representative the experiences people post ITT are.
If you think you're in trouble, then I challenege you (yes you, reader) to (e)mail as many applications to law firms in areas you have ties to as you can possibly manage. Be proactive. This is hiring season, not just OGI season, and your interviews in Slaughter hall are not the only way you can come up with a job.
On top of that, if you truly believe that your credentials should have netted you more callbacks during week 1 than you received, feel free to reach out to CSO and Dean Donovan. Y'all shouldn't swamp the poor guy, but if you're in a bind he'll go to bat for you (and stop sleeping to ensure it happens).

Re: UVa OGI Callback Thread
You are really good at comforting. It's all well and good to say calm your tits when you know people who are sitting on a pile of 5+ callbacks, but trust me when I say that I have mass mailed every secondary market that I have ties to over this summer. I have interviewed the shit out of Interviewstream. I have done 4 mock interviews with CSO. I have worked my ass off all last year for some decent grades and I've avoided the law school like the plague to avoid hearing peeps oh-so-subtly brag about their callbacks ("You're missing the first day of class too? Omg I'm so excited for the hotel Skadden's put me up in"). I have 1 callback so far out of 16 interviews this week. Let me wallow a bit in my puddle of tequila tonight and tomorrow I'll start my next wave of mass mails. Kthxbye.Anonymous User wrote:Is this a joke? After ONE WEEK of screeners? UVA 3L here. I would really encourage 2L's not write off Sealocust's advice here. I received biglaw firm offers during 1L and 2L from outside of UVA's OGI. It can definitely happen.thesealocust wrote:
