Ding and then callback

Postby Anonymous User » Mon Aug 13, 2012 11:05 pm

Should I look less favorably upon a firm that first dinged me through a job fair, and then gave me a callback interview via my school's OCI? Assuming I have many other options...

I don't understand the question. You want us to tell you how you should prefer a firm? Or do you just want someone to justify you "sticking it" to a firm that dinged you?

I always make sure to take every part of the recruiting process very personally.

What I meant is should I be concerned about being around people there that potentially didn't want to have me there in the first place?

I'm sure it was personal. And yes, they made the decision as a group. They'll all know they rejected you and they'll mock you behind your back. It definitely wasn't just one recruiter who made some random decision based on some basic info. It was a statement about your value and skill when they rejected you.

This happened to me except it was an email ding and then a callback one day later during regular OCI. The firm said it was a mistake. I don't really care how or why it happened. I am going to the callback next week and I am going to give it my best shot. That is all I can really do.

did you interview with them at the job fair, or did they just not preselect you?

If you have offers you'd prefer, then fuck 'em.

If you need a job - Stop being so butthurt.

A similar thing happened to me, but I don't get it. I'm psyched to have a second chance. You should be too.

Twist: they dinged you at the job fair because they knew they were coming to your school's OCI.

Why would you assume this? That's quite childish, tbh.

OP, their rejection might have been because someone else edged you out, dude; not because you weren't what they were looking for. They have limited spots to fill and maybe it was a toss up between you and someone else (or few) at the time, and the other person won. This is business. I wouldn't take it personal, especially if you need the job.

You have many other options? Then go on the callback, eat their food, meet their attorneys, see what you think and see if you get another offer.

If you have an offer in hand or are supremely confident you're going to get one, raise the issue of the job fair during the offer conversation and see what the firm's thought process was then. Factor whatever answer they give you into your decision-making process.

This should probably be analyzed according to the mail box rule.

^^ It's a dumb game that firms play, but a game nevertheless.
