Vinson & Elkins NY

Postby Anonymous User » Mon Aug 06, 2012 7:08 pm

Above median at CCN and want to get some more info on V&E in New York. It looks like they generally give offers at median or above at my school, but the class is small so I've heard fit is really important. Anyone have any info on what it's like there?

That's super unhelpful, and associate layoffs seem especially unlikely given the fact that V&E didn't even lay any associates off in 2008/2009. Anyone have any actual information?

Fit is really important. They care more about their culture than anything else. There are even rumors of them turning down otherwise attractive laterals with books of business simply because they didn't fit in the culture.

Also, layoffs are pretty unlikely. They didn't layoff before, have little to no debt, and have a pretty diverse client base. They really aren't that slow either.

Thanks, that's helpful. I don't know what experience you have with them, but how would you describe the atmosphere at the office? I've heard people tend to be pretty outgoing, did you find that to be true?

Mark Kelly said it's simply a no jerks policy.

They are the prototypical people you want to hand out with. At events, we drank as much beer as wine. But no one was obnoxious. Some people got trashed, but it was very dependent on the situation. People were very nice and outgoing, without being nosey or overbearing.

I agree with the no jerks policy. They aren't looking for people who are overly aggressive or who can't be part of a team.
