Quinn Dress Code

Anyone had the guts to show up for a Quinn callback in jeans and a t-shirt? Or a more LA-style outfit like jeans, tee, and a tailored blazer, a suit with no tie and sneakers, etc? Apparently almost everyone shows up either in a regular suit ensemble or in a suit without a tie (for those big risk takers out there). But I tend to think they wouldn't push this no dress code thing if they didn't want people to dress down (not to be confused with dressing sloppy, wearing pleated chinos and an oversized polo, seinfeld jeans, etc).

No one should ever show up to an interview at a biglaw firm in anything other than a conservative suit and tie for men (or conservative suit for the ladies). I don't care if it's QE LA.
Serious question: Are you high?
Edit: California is apparently tso down with the meritocracy.

I didn't go anywhere near that far, but I did show up in some really casual khakis (I think American Eagle maybe?) and just collared shirt. Have another friend who did as well. We both felt perfectly comfortable and got offers. I also didn't meet a single attorney who was dressed as nicely as I was. They were either wearing jeans or shorts, and all wore sandals.
T-Shirt seems like it's going too far. I honestly don't think they would bat an eye if you showed in jeans and a polo, but I am too risk averse to do it. I actually think they would be more turned off by someone showing up a full suit with tie. But really, there's not much you can wear that is going to impact whether they give you an offer. Quinn is about as transparent as any firm you'll come across in a number of areas. They want people with high grades from good schools who want to litigate and bill 2500 hours. You can do it in a tux or you can do it in your birthday suit.

Edit: sorry for being anon. I'm the same anon as above who said what I wore. Just don't want to out myself as having interviewed with them.

At least one anon posted about her firm ordering her to dress casually for a CB. Seems likely that it was QE.
Let's keep in mind the difference between guts and stupidity. There's no ROI justifying the decision to wear a t-shirt to Quinn. It seems clear that a polo is fine. Recall Rounders, when Matt Damn decides to turn around in the final poker game and (SPOILERZ) play KGB again despite having ended that first game up five grand.
That was stupid.

OP here, thanks for this. That's in line with what I expected [just like I expected someone to bust out the "are you high this is LAW it's serious business" line].
The reason I ask is because it's hard to do conventional business casual without looking like a schmuck - although you can do it right with the proper fit, as I'm sure you did, anon-with-an-offer - but there are a lot more sharp looking options if you start throwing jeans/t-shirt+jacket/v-neck sweater+oxford button down+tie into the mix.

One solution, if you're a man, is to wear a button-down that's not a dressy fabric, with khakis. I think it's easier to make that look good than to make a polo look good.
I would be intensely wary of suit-with-sneakers, or any other aspiring hollywood asshole outfit. Remember that you do not want to stand out because of your clothes; it should be your mantra.

I think you'll be better off in something you feel comfortable wearing than in something you think makes you look like a schmuck. If that's a t-shirt and jacket then you should wear it. I was interviewed by multiple partners and associates in t-shirts. Quinn really doesn't care.

Serious question (for real this time): do people get no-offered because they show up to a Quinn interview in suit and tie as opposed to, say, a polo and slacks?

Nope - know a friend who interviewed in a suit last year and got an offer. They really don't seem to care.

I got an offer from quin despite dressing in a suit, but I needed to be in a suit for logistical reasons so quinn-style was out of the question.
I honestly think you'd have better results dressing the way they dress instead of trying to play mind games with them, but you definitely won't getting dinged for rocking a suit to the interview.

One interviewer said that if someone had shown up to the screener in jeans and a polo they would have gotten and offer on the spot because it would have shown serious commitment to QE. I think he was only half-kidding. Suit won't ding you, but business casual or lower will show that you "get it."

Wore a black v-neck tee, nice jeans, and trendy tennis shoes. One of the partners I was interviewing with wore the same outfit, but with sandals instead of tennis shoes. Offer less than an hour after interview.

Maybe not, but it's another data point reinforcing the "they don't care" theory.
