I believe at NYU they had something like 80 screener slots. Not sure if that helps you, though.

Hm at my school its not an OCI thing, though they do (say they) recruit from the school, you submit the application online. 80 seems like a lot of spots!

They're coming to campus at my school and have 36 EIP slots. I interviewed last year for a summer internship but didn't go beyond the local case interview round. It went in this order: EIP > local group interview > local individual case interview > target city case interview. I didn't go beyond the 3rd step. Trying for full time this year.

To the person above, since you are anonymous mind telling which school?

Do people say goodbye to a law career if they go to McKinsey after a JD or can you return at some point?
Also, are the McKinsey sample tests on their website simplified versions of the real one? It does not seem too bad...
Law school grades not super high but I am strong at standardized tests so i have been really looking at this.

You will be pretty much done with your legal career, unless you want to open a solo shop. The opposite sometimes works though, i.e. going to consulting from law (told by both BCG and McK) but having practiced for a couple of years won't give you any advantage and you'd start at the same level as you would have after law school.
I never looked at the samples from their websites but their presentation and practice workshop tests were much less complicated.
Neither BCG nor McKinsey seemed interested in looking at my grades. Your law school performance doesn't say much about the skills they're looking for but they'd be interested in your standardized test scores and UGPA. Basically anything that shows either raw intellectual power or science/industry specific skills, if you have any.

Summer programs are pretty small. The 2012 summer data is not yet available but in 2011 McKinsey had 36 interviews, 30 callback offers, 17 CBO accepted and made 3 offers (2 accepted). I believe the callback offers number refers to the first callback, which is for the group interview. The number of target city callbacks must be much lower. 2010 was better: 35 interviews, 33 CBOs, 4 accepted and 4 offers. Perhaps in 2010 better talent was gravitating towards consulting given the state of the legal job market.
