Me and a friend still got fairly competitive firms up til 10 but then it was no man's land after that except the obvious pre-selects. And he has a lower GPA and got a [good] firm he ranked 9, I ranked them 12 and didn't get them. Obviously very dependent on the firms - we both did all firms with >21 spots for top 10.Gotti wrote:what makes you say that?Anonymous User wrote:What slots did you guys get? Does anyone know the deal with firm receptions ? Do most firms have them? Is it just like a reception where they invite everyone they are interviewing?

Re: The OFFICIAL Fordham 2014 OCI Season
I had 29 screeners and only 2 receptions. Quinn had a reception the night after their screeners and only invited people they were giving callbacks to (basically, law review only, as it seemed entirely predetermined). Sherman & Stearling did one after their screeners, but was for everyone, not just people who got callbacks. Only went to the Quinn one. Was fun for a few minutes, but left after 30 minutes or so. Jockeying for face time with certain people is not my cup of tea. I'd rather wait til my interview.Anonymous User wrote:Does anyone know the deal with firm receptions ? Do most firms have them? 3.0 - 3.05, secondary journal : 6 EIW interviews, more than pleased!

Re: The OFFICIAL Fordham 2014 OCI Season
anyone know around how many interviews people get on avg. from the lottery? also, does the # of lottery interviews we get depend on how many firms pre-select us or does that have no influence on the lottery?

thoughts on mass mailing firms that you bid on that you didn't get an interview with?

before or after EIW? Also, perhaps it would be better just to go to the hospitality suites?

Yea, even with lottery this seems very high for those numbers. I have friends in the top 25% that have fewer interviews.Anonymous User wrote:were some of them patent?Anonymous User wrote:3.0 - 3.05, secondary journal : 6 EIW interviews, more than pleased!
Edit: I'm not the poster with the 3.0-3.05, so I wasn't confirming they were patent, just agreeing that it would make sense if they were.

Yeah, I'm seeing a lot of mixed numbers. People with higher ranks getting fewer interviews and vice versa. I suppose strategy and luck just work for some and not for others.Anonymous User wrote:Yea, even with lottery this seems very high for those numbers. But the fact that the 3.05 dude has 6 interviews with patent makes me feel better.

Are you serious? Was it simply due to poor bidding?Anonymous User wrote:Yea, even with lottery this seems very high for those numbers. Yeah that sounds crazy. I'm at like 15%-20% with 10 and I thought that was really low

Top 20 people? or Top 20%? Because the difference between top 20% and top 33% isn't huge if they're both on secondary journals. Both are tough positions to be in.Anonymous User wrote:things are really all over the place here. my friend who is top 20 has 8. i know people with top third grades who got 9, etc.

Re: The OFFICIAL Fordham 2014 OCI Season
10 interviews here.
Between median and top 1/3... no journal or moot court.
I'm not complaining about the number of interviews I got but what gets me is that all of the 10 interviews were from my top 13 bids. (No interviews from the remaining bids.)
I don't know how the lottery system works but is there a possibility that most (if not all) of these interviews came from the lotto?
I'm worried because I see that classmates with better grades with journal/moot court experience got similar or less number of interviews.... and all of the firms that I used my top bids were definitely a reach for me.
Anyway, good luck to us all!

If its all or mostly from the lottery system then that is REALLY unfair. I don't think most of us got that many lottery picks.Anonymous User wrote:10 interviews here.

Entirely depends on the bidlist. The anon above probably got all 10 through lottery. I got 8 that I'm pretty sure were all lottery. Some people are just shitty bidders and got 2-4 through lottery.Anonymous User wrote:so no one has any idea how many picks people usually get via lottery?

I got 1 interview and I am above median, but below top 33%, and on a secondary journal. I only bid for firms with a lot of interview slots in my top 15, and I did include a few reaches in there. I thought I bid well and had a few people look at my bid list and agree, but clearly it didn't work out.Anonymous User wrote:so no one has any idea how many picks people usually get via lottery?

Re: The OFFICIAL Fordham 2014 OCI Season
If you're out of top 1/3 and no journal, it's pretty safe to assume it's all lottery (unless you have some URM status you've conveyed through your resume). I don't know what you mean it "gets you." That's the exact point of the lottery -- it gets you an opportunity you probably wouldn't have gotten otherwise. It's a good thing it exists and you bid excellently to get that many screeners with your grades. Go take advantage and kill it in the interviews!Anonymous User wrote:10 interviews here.
