Switching sides

Hi everyone,

I go to a T30something strong regional school and am working at a small plaintiff firm with a well-reputed attorney. I'm a rising 3L and will be in the unfortunate position of job hunting with no SA offer in hand and hope to find luck with midsize to regional biglaw firms in my state. While it's not sexy, I have gained a lot of knowledge about insurance policies, Workers Compensation, medical records and the like this summer. I did a lot of major writing and heavy lifting on complicated cases. Lots of midsize/larger firms that pay 75-100k seem to do Workers Comp, insurance defense, etc. for the corporate side. Will I have some luck selling my experience to defense side firms if I can articulate good reasons for wanting to do defense, not plaintiff's work? I like the practice areas but think defense side is a better fit for my personality for various reasons and that I would work better with a larger team of partners/associates.

Obviously $$ is a major unspoken reason ... Could I have some luck with this or will having done plaintiff's side make my resume automatically shredworthy?

Thanks.
