I heard from one firm for a CB about a week ago. But that's it for the resume drops...

Mind divulging the firm? If not, that's understandable.

Was this after a callback or screening interview?

Got a callback today from a V20 that I interviewed with during OCI and had completely given up on. I guess the callback-2-weeks-later isn't a myth after all.

Congrats!

Incoming random guess...
V20 = a Vault top 20 firm?

Unless I've badly misread this forum for about 2 months now, I'm pretty sure that's what that means. I just wanted to give some idea of the firm without causing any bad feelings if others have already done CBs from the firm and are waiting to hear back.

Kinda off topic, but do those rankings mean anything?

In a perfect world, assuming I got offers from all my CB's (lol), should I take the firm ranked 70ish in my ideal location or the top 20 firm in a lame location?

They all pay 160k?

They don't all pay 160k. You can find out about pay on NALP if it is a NALP firm. Rankings don't mean that much, particularly on the west coast. The rankings are geared more towards NYC firms. Firms also vary in prestige according to what type of work it is, ie IP, certain kinds of lit, M&A, etc.

CALLBACK!!! :D

I crashed an OCI yesterday, hit it off with the interviewer, and now have a callback at one of the biggest firms in upstate NY.

Passing the screener doesn't mean much but I'm happy to be in the game!

Thanks! What a relief... And quite honestly I probably couldn't have done it without this thread. Just being able to talk you all about what to expect and having a vent really made the whole process slightly less stressful. So, really, thank you all -- I am sure we will all get at least one offer.

Do you really like the firm? I'm still waiting to hear from a CB I had 2 weeks ago. They told me early September, so I'm going to start freaking out come Friday.

I love the firm I got the offer from. It's Baker Botts in Palo Alto. Everyone I met was great and the office is awesome. It came at a great time too. Had that callback with Haynes and Boone in San Jose yesterday and left the office almost praying that they wouldn't extend an offer to me. Just hated the feel of the office and the location.

And, I know it's not possible to constantly think about it... But, I've found firms generally get back to you way later than they say. So, try not to stress about it too much.
