When is it too late to mass mail?

Post by PlessFightsFire » Thu Jul 26, 2012 4:23 pm

I've done some but not nearly as much as I would like to have done by now. When is the cutoff date for there no longer being a point?

Depends on the market. In LA/OC, it's best before August, but might be useful into the second week of August. Some secondary markets might extend past that.

I e-mailed a firm in June to ask when the best time to send my application would be. They told me to send it in August. Should I wait until then or send it now?

You lose nothing but a few hours. Do it now.

Thanks, cinephile. Zero chance they put the application in a "will read in August" pile that they then forget about?

It's too late when the firm has already filled all their spots. That usually happens by January when they look into 1Ls, but due to no-offers and clerkships, firms will entertain mail applications pretty much whenever.

Others in the employment forum have already said they've gotten interviews from their mass mailings. So I don't think they'll wait till August to read your emails.
